  1. Today's trimathon!
  2. Was Kent show, I think country file were there on the Friday filming. We went on the Saturday but didn't see them there and didn't recognise any of the names on the pole climb but looked like a good turnout
  3. The firm that I work for used to have a separate grounds maintenance arm. It worked well hand in hand with the tree work as we would do the tree work on the GM sites and vice versa. It can work as a lot of the tools are transferable. We didn't do residential just schools and office/industrial parks. Main issue was a lot of the tree guys didn't want to do the GM, apart from in the summer when you could sit on a ride on mower! Money for GM was only just under tree rates
  4. I thought the hole in the third pic was too big for bats. I did find some other holes in another limb but the guy thought they were too small (see below) we lowered off the limb with the cavities to leave onsite to see if they returned or came out. The Bat conservation trust were very good and dealt with Natural England, also sent us some details of some training courses so all in all a very helpful experience. We are putting up a bat box on another tree for the client as well when we grind the stump. Apparently about 500 yards down the road a developer destroyed a roost of daubentons that the guy who came out to us was trying to save so they may have relocated into our clients garden.
  5. Bats stopped play. Found a suspected bat roost and saw bats flying nearby in this little ash so had to stop. Guy from the Bat trust turned up with his gadgets and put a camera up the hole, not much seen and after many calls to Natural England they gave the go ahead to continue today. Very good service from the bat conservation trust, they had a guy onsite within a few hours and provided all the advice required
  6. Your hands would tingle after that one! At least they are doing it by the book. Maybe the lights could be phased better if the traffic is queing that much.
  7. After a slow start getting someone to call back re the chipper Matthew Smith got on the case and had the chipper collected from Kent, fixed under warranty and back with us in around 36 hours so credit where credits due!
  8. It sounds as though your employer is falling short in terms of Health and safety and not putting adequate measures in place. Think you need to have a sit down with them and go through your concerns. I am one for cracking on no matter what but when it comes to sharps the outcome could be life changing (worse case). We work for a large council and when we go and price jobs if there is evidence of needles they send a specific clean up crew in to make sure the area is safe before work commences, this ticks the box for them and also for our health and safety policy. If all else fails could you not speak to the form you sub off? If they are a large company then they will have h&s policies in place to deal with this kind of thing
  9. Our timber wolf has a lifting eye on the top which says the max lift on the eye which is slightly less than the machine weight if I remember correctly. A previous place I worked at had a wolf 190 which we lifted with a tractor and shackle and lifting on the eye lifted it centrally
  10. Thought you'd take your helicopter Mark much more low key!
  11. Interesting thread. I see this from the other side, the guy who owns the firm I work for is on holiday at the moment so whilst he's away I price jobs, book mewps, cranes, arrange site visits, write RA's and method statements, answer the phone and book in work etc etc whilst working on site every day. I enjoy the responsibility and the freedom it gives, he basically leaves it to me whilst he's away and picks up when he returns. Yes the days are long but I enjoy it and he looks after me so I don't have a problem doing it.
  12. We have had some of your biggest jobs of the back of little jobs. You never know who they might recommend you to as well. Done plenty of little jobs and picked up a nice big takedown off a family member. If it's local why not take a look she may like you and give you the job. Priced a £2200 job this afternoon of the back of a recommendation and he now wants to go ahead. If your stacked with work then maybe you can afford to leave it but no one knows what's round the corner!
  13. Laurel? We are planting quote a lot of this lately, you can get fair size plants for a good price and they bush up quickly to provide a good screen
  14. Nice Hilux Josh, are they cheaper over there?
  15. The other st6 we have had never missed a beat, this one however had the rollers collapse last year and feels like a Friday afternoon special! To be honest we have had always had excellent service from redwood, all enquires answered and any problems corrected quickly and hire machines offered. However when this one went wrong it took over 24 hours and five phone calls to even get somebody to call back, that's not great which is a shame as everything else has always been good
  16. Apparently so, a couple of people on here pm'd me about issues with bearings and they were 6inch machines. It's being collected tomorrow so we will see!
  17. Yeah go up the hill towards Meopham a227 just after the Vigo turn if you know that and on the left near FAIRSET nursery. All aspects is the user on here phone number 07720 531132
  18. There's a site between borough green and Meopham if that's any good
  19. Couple of pics
  20. Not sure Pete if I'm honest, part of which looks like the anvil has come away and the blue bearing housing was found in front of the truck. If I was a betting man I would say that the piece of the metal near the anvil let go, smashed into the bearing housing and took that and the knives out. No a blade that did the damage as there is no sign of cracks and they are both still on their mounts. I'll put some pics up later on as I must admit I'm no expert when it comes to things like this.
  21. Yeah got some pics, I'll post them this evening when I get back
  22. Hope so, this is our lesser used machine as well. flywheel is sideways, anvil is damaged, the shoot is damaged and the knives are smashed to pieces. Luckily the chip box was full of chip or I think the pieces would have gone through the box!
  23. Hopefully called them twice since it happened early this afternoon and left messages with the promise of a call back but nothing yet
  24. Only 119
  25. Did somebody on here have a forst where the bearings went? One of our St6's has just relieved itself of its bearings and gone through the machine, just wondered if this has happened to others?
