  3. came across this oalk in a local wood the other day........the split must have been approx 20ft in length and the tree is now nestling in the crown of a neighbouring beech. Was wondering if you body language boys could tell what the initial cause of basal decay may have been?
  4. ok....they are really high up......are you saying applanatum because they are coming out of a cavity or just because you can see that they are? I must admit i instantly presumed fomes because of the height and host..... any ideas on the others. Cheers Tony.

A few nice finds today all in Nightingale Valley Woodlands (Bristol) 1,2,and 3.....inside cavity of sycamore....(my thoughts are cuticularis??) 4 and 5 ???? 6,7 and 8.....A big Fomes.....from the ground it looks to be at least 10 inches across.....am going to climb this fine old tree for a better view and photo. 9, 10 and 11.....I.d required please.

  14. A heads up for those in the bristol area.....what promises to be a unique take on Thomas Packenhams Remarkable trees series. Looks a promising theatrical showcase.....or maybe not. Anyway i will post a review once ive been to see it next week. Intro - The Wardrobe Theatre

  22. Adventitious roots on a Sycamore... A fantastic layering Beech Black Pine.....the photos do not do this tree justice at all. it apparently has the biggest girth of its species in the country....it was huge....majestic And a random nice shot:001_smile: Beech, pine and random from Arley Arboretum.
