  1. Yeah, but I am sure he put it on backwards.
  2. Complete rebuild on a galvanised chassis.
  3. That needs to be qualified. Veg oil may be less harmful when "virgin", but if you are using old cooking oil then it is full of all kinds of nasties. Not just through being heated, but by picking up stuff from overheated food.
  4. Chain oil is in fact the same spec as gear oil, could try a motor/agro spares dealer.
  5. But its not a case of just adding new grafts, you have to actively manage them. Some will have more vigerous growth and supress the others unless you regularly prune to controll the balance.
  6. Delivered some logs to a new customer the other day. She is an old lady who had just downsized to a house (from mansion) & we were chatting about the price of wood. She agreed with me that it was too cheap. Said she had so much land previously that she was self sufficient, but with the cost of employing people to fell & log the trees it would have been cheaper to have just bought it in.
  7. Seem to overlooked ensuring that the "client" has up to date certificates in food hygene & that his premises have passed all the relavent inspections !
  8. The Russians ability to get a job done whatever the circumstances is remarkable. 30 years ago I worked on some Russian drilling rigs in the Libyan Sahara & witnessed their determination to just keep on going. They held the footage record over American, Canadian, French & Australian rigs. Such methods can certainly achieve remarkable results, but at considerable risk. Under the Soviet system they were probably driven by the fear of the consequences if they failed to achieve their target. For the logging truckers, they are either on massive bonuses distorting their senses, or a Russian ogliarch is cracking the whip.
  9. Yes, but you do need to wash them occasionaly.
  10. It might be owned by a Housing Association
  11. Yesterdays London Evening Standard has a report of a contractor cutting trees on the A20 Ashford Road, near Bearstead Kent, had his leg severed by a chainsaw & was airlifted to hospital. Anyone know the facts ?
  12. What are we talking about here ? The term "Mahogany" covers a multitude of woods. Are we talking genuine quality "Mahogany" like from Cuba or S America ? If so I would get it professionaly sawn. African, Phillipine etc you could mill up with yourself.
  13. Tell her to piss on it
  14. Oh, so you havent noticed that some stumps have a tendency to spring up once the trunk has been removed ? The wind could have caused that tree to twist as it went over, or the tree it was hung against could have forced it to twist to the side. The tension in the roots could then be released when the trunk was removed.
  15. With the rootplate being unstable, what if the roots on your side had been in tension & the whole thing twisted towards you as it snapped ?
  16. Yup, definite rat
  17. Yet again it was great weather. I usually put it down to to the sacrifice of maidens to the storm gods, but this year that old coppicer who topped himself with a hung up tree seems to have been sufficient.
  18. Dont worry about your fingers, looks as though it would probably take your arm off. It ought to be in a museum.
  19. Harlots farm (& a Harlots Cottage ) But I should point out that they predate Heather Mills moving to the area
  20. You may not believe this, but according to a book I have on the history of London, back in medieval times there was a Grope C**t Lane. But of course that was 50 miles & 500 years away.
  21. Most people will just want hardwood, but whatever you do be honest with the customers. Even if you fill by weight dont quote a weight, sell by the bag or the weight & measures men will have you sooner or later.
  22. Had one for a couple of years, surprisingly good. Teeth are hardened, but lack a final grind. could probably resharpen with a diamond hone.
  23. Found these growing in my yard. Provisionaly identified as Prototaxides.
  24. Maybe undercutting is not ideal, but I have found that the tap root on a year old Oak tree can be at least 18 inches long. Moving the odd one is ok, but not a whole woodland. Happy digging
  25. Yes & its largest shareholder Lord Sainsbury is being hailed as a great public benefactor by donating 50 million quid to the British Museum. No doubt his name will be emblazoned in gold lettering over the door of the new extension.
