  3. :001_smile:If it's 4 foot through its length then you have 6-7 tonne,at 45 m to crane it your going to have to cut it one way or another, time to buy a mill & save the lumber!

    Odd tree

That first pic is a cracker, looks like a mini 'whistmans wood'. Wistman's Wood - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  6. Wishing you good progress, with confidence in your success! You are passionate about your work, hardened by your thirst for knowledge.
  7. That's sore! not much you can do realy, hope they knit up quick.
  8. Hang on to what you earn a living at,get some qualifications without commiting yourself financialy, realise that it is not easy to just jump into this trade,it takes time to become viable as a climber or groundy, and look for a bit of part time work, expecting low pay but gaining experience.
  9. Nice engine by the way, bombproof!
  10. I wonder how much research this man did before he decided to publicly trash an honest working trade. Hope his trees do not require any remedial work,or god forbid become dangerous!
  11. The mut has an 'if in doubt, take it out' attitude,on a walk this morning Billy t decided this was a threat!

  15. I seem to remember that if a rope is shock loaded, then you get friction/heat,and also a distortion of the rope structure by the tightening.
  16. The reduction of two knots dont compound to weaken the rope, but the knot with the bigest reduction in the system is the one that would be relevent regarding max break or SWL. Otherwise you could put three or four knots into the system and it would (with a 30% loss) fail under its own weight! Knot Break Strength vs. Rope Break Strength
  17. It's an old cheapy I use in dirty areas or water,I just opened up the exhaust and adjusted the carb until it didn't over rev, made it richer.
  18. Iv'e messed with an old stihl 170,(bit pointless I know) and it loves it,but make you right your saw is relatively new,If you do get the dual port exhaust, get it tuned in on the carb with a tacho by someone who knows.
  19. :thumbup:That's a fantastic piece of spalted Tony, nice work. You should put up a couple of pics of those vases I looked at! Geoff
  20. Don't know if you can buy an exhaust rather than mod the existing one,but make sure and modifications are backed up by carb adjusments, may meen taking the restricting gromet things off the air screw adjusters to get it runnuing rich enough. You probably know this anyway Liam!
  21. I know Tony well,he works with me too on occasion,Realy knows his stuff on the turning,if you are after comisioning a turned object his work is stunning. He also does training in turning,I had just come on here to put his website up,but he beat me to it! Hiya Tony nice to see you here,Geoff:thumbup1:
  22. Footty doesnt rock my boat, but each to their own!
  23. Economical thinking....nooo dont break it, so you dont...then it all becomes too much so ya do! Thinking I should have done it without thinking the first time! Oh my giddy aunt,Time for kicking cowpats in the air and then looking at your boots when you get to take them off! STRESS ! :banghead
  24. Nice looking job and brill pics Steve! Have you to grind the stump? looks like a good one!
  25. Don't give up the day job Liam, maybe one more beer would have got your artistic juices flowing a bit more!
