  1. O I am just so looking forward to that not long to go now ,just 3 weeks . I am hoping it will open up some more doors for me . I then really need some company to take me under there wing for a bit to help me get started on the simpler stuff so I can learn and develop my new skills Littletree
  2. Thanks there sure was a lot to lean in just 5 days I have been doing a bit of basic tree climbing so that helped me but the rescue stuff took some leaning with all the ropes and attachments . Littletree:thumbup:
  3. Hi all just to let you know my good news I just passed my CS38 today . it was great fun really enjoyed my day . The pole rescue was fun and all went well .I just really I am one very very happy girl . the assor was great and let me pick my tree I had a choice between the Walnuts and a row of poplars . I picked really nice poplar that I really liked and had climbed before in the week so was really happy . I just enjoy so much being off the ground and in a tree it just feels so good I should of done this years ago Am booked in for my CS39 now for first week in Feb so looking forward to getting that one too then some new oppertunities job wise might happen for me . 5. Excellent stuff John I will add it into the Sticky Thanks Littletree
  6. Hi Mat all the kit you will need is a pair of pole gaffs a harness with side attachments and a flipline . If its your first time then the show at Newbuy in Sept is good as you can turn up and the kit will be lent to you for you to have a go. or you can use your own This is a link about the different types of climbers spikes and what to look for if you want to get some pole gaffs . There are Toe spikes for racing but these have to be hand made and cannot be brought over the counter . A racing flipline can be made easily that is completely ridged I made one out of a long bit of rope covered with a plastic plumbing pipe slit down the middle then I covered it with think gaffer tape with a crab at each end to fix into your harness The gaffa tape is important as it makes the pipe less shiny so it does not slip when it grips the pole on your way up just perfect. Its a non adjustable set up ,your arms make the adjustment on your way up you just pull in closer to the pole as it gets thinner near the top . I will post a picture of mine soon . I should be going to that one too. the website address to get an entry form is UK Game Fair ? East Anglia ? Show Events and Attractions Littletree:thumbup:

  9. Excellent stuff John it will really help . even better if we could get a fourm on here just for pole climbing then we could have our own place to hang out post dates and bring things together into one place for our sport . Littletree:thumbup:
  10. We did our pole rescue part on our CS38 course today , it was not to bad just careful spiking past the casualty looking at your steps then working out all the set up ,it did take some time for us all to do it but we all got there in the end and down in one piece . We were lucky today the snow kept in the sky it was a really nice day the sun was out and no wind just a nice thick layer of snow on the ground. yesterday was a differnt story lets hope tommrow stays the same as today for our last day of training . Littletree:001_smile:
  11. HI I am new to the climbing side but have looked at several different climbing systems . I got to say keeping it simple is much better I use both ends of the rope and just use a blakes . I cannot get on with any of these mechanical devices, for me it makes it harder not easier but thats just me . Littletree:001_smile:
  12. Hi , yes still at the planting job but so far I have been quite lucky and been mainly on tree ground work for most of the time using the chipper crosscutting etc . looking forward to getting 38/39 as then really looking forward to getting a job doing some climbing work some simple stuff to start with to get me going and gain some exp . Littletree

  14. That white stuff has beaten us again . its our CS38 course this week 2 of us made it in this morning we got part of the rescue stuff done for a couple of hours this morning but the rest of the group were snowed in so now back at home with my assessment schedules in hand . Weather not looking good for the next couple of days we still have to do the pole rescue and some other stuff . Lets hope the weather has a change of hart so we can the rest of it done for our assessment next week . Littletree
  15. Pole climbing is the best fun going . The dates for Yorkshire are 13th to 15th July and the Royal welsh is 19th to 22nd July but do check the websites . I am planning to go to most of them this year . I was up a pole today as doing my 38 the new section in the assessment schedule is a pole rescue . Shame there is not more of the 80 feet poles for us to train on for the comps there really is a lack of poles in the UK it would be nice to see a growth in this sport in the UK . Littletree:thumbup:
  16. Hi lovly picks. we had a small dusting over our trees this afternoon . I am doing my CS38 course this week so it made the branch walk very interesting I think it could be a thick dollop on them by the morning lets hope not to much . thin layer of snow is lovly compared to the rain . Littletree:thumbup:
  17. HI there you are doing very well getting 80 a day for a groundy if on PAYE. I do a combination of private and self employed subcontract work and do employed work on the PAYE system I usually get anywhere between 60 and 70 a day using there kit . I have CS30/31 CSCS card and brush cutter ticket . For the private ground work as self employed just sawing up and clearance stuff small fells depending on location I ask for between 80 and 100 a day with my own saws . If its just a couple of small tree simple fells then I just price per tree . I am doing my CS38 course this week and then 39 in Feb so slowly getting better qualified so over time things will improve . Littletree:biggrin:
  18. There sure was plenty of it today . I find that rain has a personality of its own today it was cold rain, sleet, rain and a few white snow drops to cover the layer of gloopy mud .
  19. Hi Omniata Go for it . I did just that and am really enjoying it its the best move i ever made . Wind, rain, snow, mud, slush no worries it beats working in an office shop or anyware inside the good old outdoors you will never ever look back . I started off getting 30/31 and just done my brushcutter last week . and my cs38 starting on the 4Th Jan so am really looking forward to it . I would never want to go back to work inside its so pants . I should of made my move many years ago but better late then never A £30 set of Army surplus gortex jacket and trousers will sort all your rainy days out they go over the chainsaw trousers and you will stay nice and dry all day one of the best investments i ever made for this job . good luck Keep the posts coming Karen
