  1. WTF??? I think that's the best reason I've ever seen to stear clear of the homebrew scrumpy
  2. LANTRA 3 day Professional Tree Inspection Course is probably your best bet if you want something specifically related to inspection, otherwise the AA Tech Cert is a good all 'round, mid level technical qualification. A lot depends on your existing levels of knowledge and your time constraints (as you have stated). And 7 times??? You're falling apart, man
  3. Arb' job in Colchester - any good for you? For some reason, the actual job list hasn't come through with the link, so you will have to do the job search again. Igneous Recruitment - Job Listing There's no posted / end date, so apologies if it's hopelessly out of date .
  4. Great stuff . Did you have to go back and re turf that huuuuuge furrow?
  5. Just watched it. All depressingly familiar information, but hopefully it will make a few more people aware of what is a huge global problem. Maybe...
  6. It's the removal of the fallen leaves that reduces the amount of adult miners hatching out and continuing the (re)infestation cycle, especially the last leaf fall of autumn as these leaves will produce the first generation for next year's cycle. And mulching has so many benefits already covered in depth by others more eloquent than I .
  7. Is this a tree that you have seen in situ?
  8. The official line is that leaf damage by 'miners causes no long term damage to the trees as by the time major defoliation occurs, enough starch reserves have been produced and stored for the following growing season. But to my mind, continual year on year defoliation has to have a stressing effect and weaken the tree, possibly allowing other pathogens a chance to colonise.
  9. Can you post some piccies of Westonbirt when you get back? I wanted to go, but being a poor, impoverished Benefits scrounger at the moment, I couldn't afford it So piccies of all the beee-u-tiful carvings are the next best thing.
  10. Aha, a "normal" sized climber at last I'm sure that there is a little bit of, shall we say, exageration with all these ridiculously tall heights quoted, cos the only climbers I ever see on site are munchin sized and make me feel huge.
  11. I'm stumped by this one . I've got quite a good ID book collection and I can't seem to find anything similarr. So far! I'm taking it on as a challenge and I WILL find out what it is (even if it means reading the next few posts to get the answer from someone else )
  12. Aye, we're not a bad bunch. Despite appearances . Keep us posted with how you're getting on.
  13. You can do the RFS Certificate online, but I think for someone fresh to arb' this may be a bit hard going. There are two parts to this: theory and then if you pass, a practical element which you have two years (I think?) to acheive. There is also the City and Guilds course which is run 1-2 days per week and is college based, covering basic theory and practical skills. This is probably your best entry course, but I don't know if you would be able to fit it in with your shift patterns.
  14. Where have you been looking for jobs? If these two aren't on you favourites lists yet, have a look: arborist supplies at eArborist Marketplace Arbjobs.com - Tree Jobs! - Home Good luck with the job hunt and hope you find something soon, either payed or unpaid.
  15. I once found a slow worm about about 1.5m up a tree that I was felling . Don't these creatures read up on where they're supposed to be found?
  16. Interesting choice of Vicar
  17. Nice picture . TBH, I have become so accustomed to the yearly leaf damage here in London that I forget that it's not countrywide yet. Good on you for doing the monitoring.
  18. I blame the landscape architects . Trees, like any other comodity, are traded world wide. The big suppliers in the UK produce a certain amount of stock, but there will always be a demand for species and cultivars not currently available as UK grown. C'est la vie.
  19. He was one of our customers when I was working in a certain Soho body piercing studio . It was very surreal talking to one of the music industry's supposedly wildest men about his country estate and Weimeraners.
  20. janey

    Developing

Looks like a bit of discarded loo roll after a few showers
  21. 6ft12 and 1/2 a stone You are the Twig:lol:
  22. That'd be far too much like fun in the workplace and I'm sure that there's an EU directive against that. But it is amazing how quick you can get up a tree with some big blokey climber type hanging off the end off your rope . The more rotund amonst you are usefull
  23. You're all a bunch of freakish giant pepole !!! I'm 5'5'' and 7.5st, so can you guess who used to get all the tip reductions?
  24. As is says on the tin. I know the FC are working to contain the London outbreaks, but personally, I don't think that is realistic and we are going to have to look at managing them, rather than eradication. This latest outbreak is the second outside of the London area and is quite some considerable distance from the original infestations. This is something that we are all more than likely have to deal with in the next few years, so keep 'em peeled boys and girls and look out for the hairy wee critters. OPMAug10 Annex1 (2)[1].doc
  25. It's hard to give an opinion even with piccies; impossible without them. Hint hint . There are so many variables to consider: the extent of the decay, the amount of reaction wood (if any), general vigour, targets etc etc. Is it a tree that you have been asked to quote for?
