  1. Ahem, now that they have lost their best tree inpector, ie, moi, what do you expect?
  2. Bottlebutt. Multiple Gano' brackets. Thin crown. Typical street tree targets. Methinks that tree aint gonna be around for much longer!
  3. I've only ever come across B papyrifera and that looks nowt like the piccy above . What spp. do you think it is?
  4. Lend me the book. Buy me a pint. THEN I might have a faint idea about what you're talking about and will be able to discuss it with you
  5. Such a shame. I'm young enough , just, to never have seen mature elms in any great numbers. Apparently there used to be loads where I grew up, but the only time ever see any mature elms is when I venture into Brighton.
  6. You've left your nighty on in some of them, silly boy
  7. Why, thank you kind sir. I'm suprised that you didn't spot the deliberate mistake in that piccy 2 is actually Laetiporus, that old fat fingers here uploaded by mistake I'll lend you my specs, if you like?
  8. They may not be technical, as you put it, but they look pretty darn good
  9. To this suburbanite, it looks like past vandalism that has had a chance to occlude . Something that I come across far too frequently
  10. And you do it so well . I should have typed less common than atypical, really, but I like the word
  11. Just to add to the comments above, I've come across it quite a bit on Aesculus hip', but not on x carnea before. Also on the atypical species list, I've found it on Prunus and Sorbus. Yet another fungus that hasn't been reading about where it's supposed to live!
  12. Sorry, I'll try not to show you up with that glorious piece of British engineering of mine. Presuming yours makes it there, that is... I'm looking forward to a day with the two AT fungi meisters . It should be very educational.
  13. I'm taking a wild guess that you mean the latter? Directgov jobs and skills search - Job details Note the closing date though There's also another Woodland Officer position in Wales advertised, BTW.
  14. It used to be sports cars and a gym membership, but perhaps playing with chainsaws is the new black for mid life crisis'?
  15. Naked mud wrestler? Failing that, Sheffield is advertising for a woodland manager that mite be your cup of tea (if you don't mind relocating).
  16. It it was left as a mono, even to just above the crown break, the risk of faulure would be minimal for many years to come. The original failure point was not the base or the trunk, after all. And as for those nasty evil splinters... The opportunity for play and education far outweighs any PERCEIVED risk that a bit of rough wood may pose in this ridiculously risk adverse age off ours.
  17. Shame it wasn't left as a monolith, tho.
  18. I thought we all WANTED more standing deadwood, especially natives? Ban the kids, problem solved .

  21. How did you train the Puma to helpfully turn the bolete like that?
  22. If you're really stuck then you could always approach the LA Contractor. More permanent - yes. More challenging? Possibly not. But you'll get damn good at Plane re reductions.
