So finally somebody admits that apple are just as vulnerable as windows based machines to viruses........ How do you work out that apple are cheaper? If you want a new hitachi CD drive for a mac (they arent made by apple, as are none of the other compponents BTW) you cant go into PC world and buy one and plug it in for tgens of £££s, you have to buy one that is still made by hitachi, usually identical to the PC ones, only you will have to pay (last time I heard £137) loads more because it is to be fitted to an apple product. FFS this is the most ridiculous "fan-boy" driven nonsensical argument in years, driven by (mostly) people who have to justify the fact that the only real difference between mac and pc is that it comes in a fancy box and runs on a ripped off linux based system and has cost them a shed load of cash:laugh1::laugh1: Its like dressing a landy up as a toyota and saying its far more reliable because it has a\ toyota badge lol

Incredibly frustrating at times, when you have shelled out well in excess of £20k.

mostly hydraulic related, on the crane TBH, which was sold as fuly refurbished. Certainly it had all new pipes and pins etc, but it has always crept and sometimes the grab gives up, as well as some electrical gremlins, which must be expected to a certain degree, but what i have issue with is their lack of interest in any way towards helping out. I have always been lurking in the background haha

well I am sorry to report that my/ our experience has been wholly opposite to that. Maybe its because you live near enough to make a difference, and because we are at the far end of the country its okay to fob us off all the time:confused1:

If you need a truck that will take REAL abuse and KEEP coming back for more without totally dying then steer well clear of jap rubbish. It is great until you really slog it, then it is rubbish gutless bendable weak unreliable trash. -
whether you have a mac or a pc you will still have contiguous and fragmented files....If you dont want a file then erase or uninstall it, a file that is correctly indexed will be contiguous, they're not a bad thing lol. A mac is only a dressed up pc nowadays anyway, with a ridiculous pricetag attached lol. asus still make all the mother boards, hitachi the cd drives usually, and samsung the monitors

Aah you are picking up on my syntax. I see now, i missed the brackets off the divide by four it, my bad- i was trying to explain to anyone that was dull enough not to be able to work it out that MQG was the girth divided by four then squared. Seems even that was too difficult. Sorry.

No, I meant mid quarter girth. The formula is as follows, and nothing else: mid quarter girth squared (in inches) times the length in feet, divided by 144. That is it. End of. Never mind dividing by anything else, that would be wrong. I must have explained this a gazillion times on this forum BTW

10' long 48" diameter is (48/4)squared, divided by 144, times the length of the log (10'). Where did you find the divide by 16 bit? Never heard of that before? By the dividing by 16 method you are a foot out.....

Mid Quarter Girth (in inches) squared, divided by four, times the length in feet, then divide by 144.

Everything except structural timber as it is very short grained......it never rots and it polishes to the most amazing smooth finish. Cladding, flooring, partition studwork, fence posts....you name it. Wonder timber.

I was going to get a 46" sugihara off Rob recently, when i found my 48" stihl was bent, but felt that for me the solid nose was better as i can get more out of the mill- up to about 42" with the solid nosed stihl bar, but then I bought my mill in the late 90's and had a load of big logs to mill at the time, hence bought what was available at the time, so I have got used to that size. Like Rob says, the bar nose can and usually does get very hot indeed. I was very very lucky to get a sub £260 inv VAT price on the stihl bar too, which was too good to miss lol......(sorry Rob ). One downside to the stihl bar, although not entirely relevant when milling, is the flex in the stihl bar which IMO is atrocious, not to mention the weight. Rob- many thanks for your help with the new chains last week BTW. Been milling 4'6" diameter macrocarpa for the last two days.....will finish the last two logs tomorrow, and similarly sized burr wych elm last week.

Used every type of handler out there at one time or another on steel erecting, and sorry to say but JCB were the worst by a long shot. Clunky, poor control, those hideous yellow levers, gutless, underpowered........only my personal experience of course......and poor visibility too....tbh the only one that really stood apart was the merlo, especially on the 9m + machines. The only problem with merlo was the awful brakes (for which they are renowned) but as far as useability is concerned they are unbeatable. IMO the only decent thing JCB make are diggers. Like i said, only an opinion:001_smile:

With an adapted frame, so that one of the operators can anchor a bar to the ground, and as long as you are ready for it to hit a stone, the stihl ones are excellent- used one for years with no problem.

My mate has done it and ran like it for ages, no problem. Ill try to dig out some pics if i can find them.

The o44 looks like a chip fat special judging by the state of the fins......probably why it seized up. if you run veg oil instead of chain oil you have to be on top of the maintainance or they do seize. Of course, i could be totally wrong

wilsons are useless unless you want to buy a machine off them...after sales is rubbish.
