  1. Liam has your gransfors not done any work mate?!?! Mine is scarred and filthy!! Oh- and thats a well scary knife too. Big bolt- how big a log can you sensibly move with the large hookaroon. I have thought about getting one for a while now (i have a sawmill ). Could i roll 16' 20" diameter larch off the heap, or should i just stick to the big cant hooks?
  2. Great thread. Such a bizarre oarganism. Do any of you fungi-ists have any idea how long the time was for the timelapse film Ali posted up?
  3. Cool. They were right to be very happy.
  4. Most of the time.....
  5. No- i wanted it to look Nothing like that:sneaky2:
  6. I wanted EXACTLY that planking though. And i hate trannies. Sorry.
  7. There is NO LAW regarding this. You can, after exhausting all avenues of speaking/ pleading with your neighbour, take a more official route, which has includud the issuing of ASBO's in the past, but there is no legal height limit. Heres a link that may help. The Actual Law on Leylandii | Information
  8. Climbing for my mate Paul (the guy with the red 130?). Good job you didnt drop in today- there was a fairly black cloud over Higher Laity Farm as everything conspired to mess up my day:001_rolleyes:
  9. Lol- thats what tomorrow evenings job is I think...if i have any energy left. I got halfway through it and kept getting images in my mind of your LDV mate:blushing:
  10. Hers a before piccy..
  11. Its heavier than before.......so now i probably have NO legal carrying capacity whatsoever lol. As you know i have been looking for ages, and out of the blue someone mentioned a chapin Illogan who does a bit with lorry body work. He had the sides and tailgate off an ex bt 7.5 tonner, which he let me have for scrap price. He still has 3 sides left, at £50 per side, they are 21" high and at a guess 2.5 metres long, maybe a bit more. Ill measure the offcut tommorow and bell you Dave.
  12. After a disastrous day on the mill, with endless bandblade issues with a handler on hire too:thumbdown:, I gave up on milling at about 5pm and built new sides for the chip box. I have been using ply for years, but recently i have finally got fed up with the appearance. I wanted second hand ali to match the bottom half of the tipper body which i built about 6 years ago, as I thought new would look too shiny. It has taken me a while to find second hand lorry sides of the right plank size for a reasonable price (one scrappy wanted more than new would have cost!!!) but I finally got some the other day. Total build cost of the new bit....£112, and about 4 hours work:thumbup: A bit more work with the steel wool to make it all the same shininess after work tomorrow methinks.
  13. I have had an alaskan for 11 years, and went in the deep end with an 088 with a 48" bar. I have to say that i wouldnt consider any other set up. I am not brand loyal to stihl, but I know of 4 people locally who have or have hd alaskans or similar, and one started with a husky but it didnt have the same sort of torque the stihl does in that application. I have found that you arent looking for the chain to be going quite as quick as when crosscutting- its hard to explain but there seems to be an optimum speed, albeit with the throttle on full, which give the best cut at the most efficient speed too. The torquiness of the stihl seems more suited to this than the revvy power of the husky. BTW i have a mini mill for sale. It may still be in the classifieds.
  14. There are dedicated ripping chains out there, such as the stihl RThey are better suited to this sort of work. Oregon do one too. Bandsaws are the ultimate TBH, but for a self build get in touch with Rob D on the alaskan mill forum, he can sort you out.
  15. Good points there, and the last I think is very relevant......CTS does alot of commercial stuff.
  16. Haha i hear ya mate!! We are all exactly the same really (other than the yoghurt weaving hessian sack wearing hippy types:001_tongue:) I just think that we ought to not lose sight of the results of our actions. None of my posting in this thread is meant to be denegrating or critical- I would be being truly hypocritical if I was casting aspersions.
  17. And that perfectly sums up the modern day human condition. I am exactly the same mate, and so are we all pretty much. Although i know / feel its wrong, and that iam prostituting mysefl to the 'enemy', whilst at the same time entrenching their monopoly, its what we do. There is not point in berating ourselves for it, but at the same time one ought to relise why we haver that state of things, and how we are encouraging that perpetuity of said status quo, whilst at the same time keeping in mind the global damage we are aiding and the diminuation of a future for the planet and, ergo, our legacy (our kids and their kids etc etc) hwo will have to pick up the pieces from our selfishness. I havent spent quite that at tescos today, but i am shortly going to remedy that situation.
  18. I even agree entirely lol
  19. I agree, ebtirely. I thnk that was the point i was trying to make:001_smile:
  20. That is a fave for them to go. Mine is looking a bit patchy now in exactly the same place as i have had a few repairs done there. Shame tho as the rest of the chassis is A1. If work continues as it has for the alst 6 months then its going to get a galvy chassis.
  21. Wow- loving the landy chip box. Dave- have a look on the vos website- they have loads of pics of chip box ideas which seem okay. Can you post a pic of the present set up you have mate?
