  1. My road towable thor splitter is designed for just that - 1m+ lengths, but over£3k Where abouts are you, could come along and split for you at the right price!!!
  2. Was just wondering what everyone is paying for hardwood delivered to your yard. Obviously going to vary up and down the country and according to species/quantities/transport etc. I am looking at £50/t for mixed hardwoods at the moment delivered by artic. Interested to see if there is a general increase in the cost of firewood grade timber. Not after any suppliers or specific details just a general idea.
  3. Yep, leave sides uncovered. The benefits of allowing good airflow are far greater than keeping a bit of snow/rain off the ends.
  4. Met these guys at APF, they are based in Warrington : : Brit-Tipp : :
  5. no probs, good luck!
  6. would be useful to let people know roughly where it needs to be collected from
  7. you can get splitters with their own power supply - ie petrol engine
  8. I've had 3 repeat customers from last year order double what thay had last year as they have had "another log burner installed". My logs are same price as last year at £100/cubic metre - nobody seems to even flinch when they are told how much they cost (seasoned, dry mixed hardwood) - might have to put them up abit after Xmas!
  9. Think I'll suggest £1 per mile above the 10 mile radius (£18), providing they order min of two cube. Still find it odd that people will buy logs so far away when there are so many people selling them. I'm sure if they looked harder they could find some logs a lot closer to home but may be they aren't very good at using google. Be interesting to see if the new suppliers directory has an impact on where people source logs from - don't comprehend how some body would pay to have them delivered by courier from several counties away - goes against the grain for me! Customers over 30 miles will be passed on to another supplier - hopefully put the directory in to use for that! Thanks for the info guys
  10. just wondering what people charge for delivering logs? I deliver free of charge up to 5 miles (min 1 cube) free of charge up to 10 miles (min 2 cube) had a call today from some one looking for logs (2 cube) but they are 28 miles away, how much should I charge for the extra travelling?

  12. Last year I was paying about £8/T for delivery from about 40-50 miles away. Some body else on here was suggesting £2/mile for delivery I think (artic load). Probably best to contact local haulage company but I suspect it will be expensive - rather a long journey to be going empty

  15. I have the thor 13T road towable Chose this as it does logs over 3ft, I split into billets and then stack for seasoning. Takes less than 10 mins to set up in vertical position which is the only position I use it in. Made a few tables for splitting smaller logs. Bit pricey but wouldn't complain about it

  21. Hi Sam sounds very interesting There doesn't seem to be a great deal of coppice in Cheshire. I have lots of people contact me for coppice products (I live in Nantwich) but I can't get hold of enough (especially bean poles in spring). I reckon you could quite easily sell most of your coppice material Where abouts is your wood if you don't mind me asking? Dave

  24. Dead elm must be about the best I've ever burned. None of my customers know how good it it as they don't get any of it. Funny indeed but it seems to be what people today still use as a guide!
