My in-laws just had log-burner fitted, Etwall just outside Derby. Will give them a call see if they want it, if it's still available? They can then pay me to process it for them!!! If it goes to an end-user I assume VAT will only be 5%? -
I have same method, but produce 36" billets. When cutting to size with bench saw it is easy to get 6", 9", 12" or 18" logs without any waste or odd sizes left over. Only had one customer wanting 18" logs though - and he was really disappointed that I couldn't get all ash for him!

Hi mate, it's a Thor Farmer multi-use splitter, 13T pressure and is really good. Just about able to move it around single handed. I paid about £3,500 i think last summer. You can get a table for splitting shorter pieces. Mine came via M.Large Tree Services, should be able to find them easy enough on a google search. Not many good road-towables around

I have a moisture metre which is used for testing all sorts of materials but I mainly use it for firewood (and other wood for carpentry etc). With this one you have to in-put the specific gravity of the individual species of wood to give an accurate reading, it takes in to account surrounding humidity levels etc etc Probably a bit OTT for firewood but is very accurate

I took 2cubic metres freshly cut loose logs on to a weigh bridge and it came out at 860kg. By my calculation 1000kg of green timber should have a volume of 2.3 cubic metres when turned in to split loose logs. In reality I reckon it works out more like 2cubes logs from a ton of fresh cut timber

Good job there John, hope it works out ok, If I had any more space or cash I would have bought that lot myself but I reckon two loads will have to do for the moment I'm starting to build a covered store for mine, just need to split into billets first and then stack to season it out side until September, then get it in the store Happy logging

Don't forget me!!! I'd pay you that to south cheshire and you don't have to ring it if you don't want, any size pieces would do. Then i could sell it to them next winter as split seasoned logs!!! If I'm closer then you pay less fuel and take less time delivering it

We just had flue fitted for wood-burning Rayburn. It's all about complying with building regs and HETAS. From what I remember if the flue comes out of the roof or up the wall to within a metre of the ridge then it must extend at least a metre higher than the ridge. Ours came out 1.5m away from ridge and so didn't need to go quite as high, but the higher it goes the better the pull and the more it will cost you (£80-£100/metre for SS double skinned). For every bend you put in is the equivalent to losing a metre of flue in terms of the pull you get. Also if the appliance is over a certain size (4.5kw ???) you need a straight through air vent putting in . Best to speak to some one in building control at local authority and find a HETAS engineer so you can get a certificate of installation

If they are laid flat on their side I can pull them off back of L200 pick-up and they just drop to floor quite easily, then shift them with sack truck. Ideal for smaller deliveries as not pulling trailer around - I am amazed how many customers live in places that are awkward for deliveries by trailer I did manage to single-handed load five on to back of pick-up but they are quite heavy to hoist up/lift by your self. Two people can load them if you want to without too much trouble!

I attach one loop to a post knocked in to ground near where I'm working in the yard. Using a Hakki Pilke Eagle saw, cut billets to required length and throw them in Need to over fill them as they do settle in transit

Got mine from Bag supplies, 50 cost about £160 They do vented ones as well I think, may try some this summer One or two of mine are showing some wear but they do get hammered a bit some times Did 2 cubic metres for one customer (10 sacks) 18" logs (fit just nicely in sacks), tipped in his back garden near his shed in 10 minutes - quality delivery service
