  1. we did 2 palms today . out timberwolf tw190 chipped it without a problem but from what green mec said , palm is meant to blunt chipper blades really quickly ??? not sure what the truth in that was
  2. i wonder what the allowed perioud of work with an ms880 from a set of spikes would be , i have a job to do this week with a crane and there would be no way i would come down once i had started untill the tree was down , if i worked by hse reg's i would need the crane to be there for 2 days minimum, if my clients are like anyone else's clients they want the job done in as little time as possible with the least cost's . i think the hse should spend more time trying to stop the cowboys and pikeys rather than picking on the decent companys that try to do as much by the book as possible . sorry for ranting on but this sort of thing really really really pi sses me off
  3. what you need is a pocket full of ladybirds , that would sort them out
  4. does the type of timber being cut come into it ?? if so i would be inclined to test them on lime or pop
  5. yeah i guess they are meant to but are they going to on this matter ??? how many guys do you employ ???? surely anti vibe chainsaw gloves would allow us to work for much longer on the ground with a saw ???
  6. did you keep the bit about regular staff beetings untill productivity improves shrek lol
  7. i realy think that this is something that tree surgeons need to all get together and have such a daft rule got rid of , look where trying to bann the ms200 got them , i find it hard to understand how a bunch of office jockeys that have probably never done the job can make such a decision . my locall council would find another contractor if i said that my team had used its allowed exposure time and that the rest of the tree thats keeping a main road closed will have to stay closed untill tomorrow !!!!!
  8. dave dowson is in my opinion one of the best there is and comes highly recomended by my old lecturer Jack Kenyon at Merrist wood - thats a testimony in its self
  9. so its true what they say then gary - you have a big mouth and funny shaped teeth lol . jokes
  10. i stronly intend to carry on working in the way in which every decent tree surgeon has done for many years . i run my own small company and if i were to comply with hse demands then my company would fold , how am i meant to cary out half a reduction or in fact how am i meant to ring down half a masive pine stem because myself and the other climber have used our allowed exposure time , frankly its a big pile of crap ? nothing stops the woman next door using her rabbit for hours on end , think of the dammage thats doing to her !!!!!
  11. hi looks like an fromidable option , whats the price tag ??
  12. it the tree that you are cutting is over hanging rail track equipment or properties then contact rail track as they will prosicute anyone found working on trees that interfere with ther track or equipment , as for powerlines every worker in the arb industry should be trained to identify basic equipment
  13. nice rock climb looks like a vs - hvs looks like good fun , where abouts in the lakes was that
  14. i use a mazda b2500 i have had it 5 years and has had a beating nearly every day i have had it and still its going strong !!! i would struggle to get anything to replace it
  15. thats impressive felling that , so far i have only mannaged to fell the local town christmas tree when i lived in devon as a drunken dare lol , i hated the community service that followed ha ha
  16. good man brian but after i saw what you can do with a dirty thong and some duck tape i recon you could lower 5 tom pluss with bailor twine and rizla papers
  17. im really going to enjoy it , its really is a shame it has to come down but it is now structurally un safe , when the tree officer did a QTRA on it he found the risk was less than one in two thousand , but we are going to colect some pine cones and micro prop them and re- plant with a saplin from the origional tree. think a may get the lock jack and friction saver out for this one lol oh and evenfound someone with a 16 wheeler to buy the timer off me = great
  18. good man jojam im on it on monday lol !
  19. i have only ever used chains on crane work , i find them easy to adjust and much quicker for cradle work , i tend to use double chains for bigger timber as it increases the crontrole , but depends on how you cut i guess , i tend to use alot of step cuts and single cuts strait through . but good luck trying the rope system , let us know how you get on , with some pictures mybe ??
  20. let me at it lol
  21. they insured my scooby for me when i was 24 (last year) i now have my public liability and employers liability with trust , could not recomend a better company , a reall one stop shop it really saves so much time having everything with them
  22. i would agree , with a view to carrying out work on it i would wait and find out what the sound wall thicknes is , i would not recomend reducing a beec by more than 25% tho , i guess its a case of **** or bust tough call but it looks like a lovely tree to work on
  23. happy fathers day shrek , i have considdered felling massive sections whils hanging from the crane just for the hell of it but felling is still a bit temptation lol
  24. looks quite nasty , how big is the host tree ?? i felled a sycamore a few weeks back that was infected with Kretzschmaria deusta , from the a visual inspection you would not assume there was any thing majorly wrong structually but after using a decay detection drill it was evedent that the sound wall thicknes was only 10-11%. the tree was situated in a park and lent out over the grassed area , hence we felled it the same day , then next day we came to stump grind it and i was amaed to see how major the decay was , we took 25 mins to grind the stump that was 26-28 inches accros .
  25. apparently this was the monterey pine with the biggest crown spread i think , fooking big i really aint looking forward to getting the 880 up in the tree lol
