  1. thats impressive felling that , so far i have only mannaged to fell the local town christmas tree when i lived in devon as a drunken dare lol , i hated the community service that followed ha ha
  2. good man brian but after i saw what you can do with a dirty thong and some duck tape i recon you could lower 5 tom pluss with bailor twine and rizla papers
  3. im really going to enjoy it , its really is a shame it has to come down but it is now structurally un safe , when the tree officer did a QTRA on it he found the risk was less than one in two thousand , but we are going to colect some pine cones and micro prop them and re- plant with a saplin from the origional tree. think a may get the lock jack and friction saver out for this one lol oh and evenfound someone with a 16 wheeler to buy the timer off me = great
  4. good man jojam im on it on monday lol !
  5. i have only ever used chains on crane work , i find them easy to adjust and much quicker for cradle work , i tend to use double chains for bigger timber as it increases the crontrole , but depends on how you cut i guess , i tend to use alot of step cuts and single cuts strait through . but good luck trying the rope system , let us know how you get on , with some pictures mybe ??
  6. let me at it lol
  7. they insured my scooby for me when i was 24 (last year) i now have my public liability and employers liability with trust , could not recomend a better company , a reall one stop shop it really saves so much time having everything with them
  8. i would agree , with a view to carrying out work on it i would wait and find out what the sound wall thicknes is , i would not recomend reducing a beec by more than 25% tho , i guess its a case of **** or bust tough call but it looks like a lovely tree to work on
  9. happy fathers day shrek , i have considdered felling massive sections whils hanging from the crane just for the hell of it but felling is still a bit temptation lol
  10. looks quite nasty , how big is the host tree ?? i felled a sycamore a few weeks back that was infected with Kretzschmaria deusta , from the a visual inspection you would not assume there was any thing majorly wrong structually but after using a decay detection drill it was evedent that the sound wall thicknes was only 10-11%. the tree was situated in a park and lent out over the grassed area , hence we felled it the same day , then next day we came to stump grind it and i was amaed to see how major the decay was , we took 25 mins to grind the stump that was 26-28 inches accros .
  11. apparently this was the monterey pine with the biggest crown spread i think , fooking big i really aint looking forward to getting the 880 up in the tree lol
  12. i wish shrek , the thought of using the 880 up in the tree for the best part of the day does not really get my juices flowing !!! but hey better than stum grinding all day !!
  13. hiya im based in penance and am looking for someone , give me a shout on 07790206316 if its of any use to you oh and im dave by the way
  14. well i will be doing half of it without a crane as it all leans in the right direction . will use a crane for the more awkward bits and shiftim the timber to one area as we only have 3-4 days to get it down and gon before the camp site re-opens
  15. i wish lol , i hinted at felling it but the propperty manager didnt seem to keen , pluss im really looking forward to climbing it lol . hows things with you then ??? hear much from mark nankervis ?? i hardly ever see him around any more

  16. the guys out on the falmouth road have hundreads of tons of soft wood but no sign of any hard wood , and they have the cheek to call it top quality firewood !!!! i really think not . this winter i wont be selling logs lol really cant be bothered lol
  17. yeah i hope to get loads of pictures , im hoping the local news will be there as the owner has contacted them as the tree was apparently one of the bigges montereys in the country or europe , but im not sure , this time next week i will have been to the arb show and the pine will be one of the oldest smallest trees lol
  18. do you have 5 or more vehicles that you insure ??? i have my 08 platr transit (contract hire) my nisan navara sport boublecab , leyland daf lift platform , my subaru imprea and nisan cabstar tipper on a fleet policy and found it really reasonable , but even if your looking to insure one vehicle i would phone trust insurance and ask for cammeron he should see you right
  19. thankfully its not a grind other wise i would be looking for a mad fool to come and grind it out . i cant imagine 114 year old pine would be any fun to grind lol
  20. down here in cornwall there is a company selling soft woods such as larch , spruce , douglas fir etc etc for 120 per load for a cab star , i cant believe people will pay that for a load of semmi wet soft wood , or am i just being un realistic !!!!!!!!
  21. thanks shrek , it should be good fun felling the stick , i climed a big beech today that the trainee said was realy big so in our lunch brak i took him to see that pine he then realised what really big is . just really not looking forward to the clean up job ha ha i think ten tons of top soil will be needed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. i wish we could do it like that shrek or like mark said but as the 5 day notice went in yeserday and was accepted it looks like we will be starting it on wednesday and bringing the 65 ton crane in on thurs to take the top out and move all the timber . and yes brian that is the 115 penance to helston !!!!!!! anyone know how well an ms880 with 48 inch bar is at felling twice the bar size ???
  23. they want the butt left a about 12 foot lol i will have to take some pictures of it comming down if the tree officer gives the go ahead tomorrow , think it will be a crane job lol
  24. yeah i think about 60-65 tons rughly but thats only a guess
  25. 3 turret bouncy castles and hedge hog counts with bill oddie oh and a picture of shreks wee brother on my bedroom wall
