  1. It's a tricky one for sure, without just routing through and cleaning society of the wasters permanently along with their offspring then starting from scratch. If you take the welfare state away undoubtedly genuine people in need will suffer, if it stays lazy scrounges will abuse it. More staff to investigate people claiming more thoroughly would be the only realistic option and bump enough of them off benefits to outweigh the increased wage bill.
  2. Been reading a few of these threads recently, they seem largely inconclusive. Think I'm gonna order a 660 with 36" bar this week, got a large Sycamore coming up I've always preferred orange and white anyway and not even overly impressed with 395XP I've used.
  3. I use my IPad to make notes whilst on site and take pictures if necessary, I like to give a price on site as in my albeit limited experience it seems to increase my chances of winning the job. I use pages to do my quotes but should really switch to using invoice to go however I don't like how everything has to be itemised on those quotes with a rate.
  4. When your experienced when oh can do nigh on any Job i.e If you can say your happy to jump in the truck and go to work with any crew not knowing what awaits you on site and not be worried because you can think and climb your way around any problem.
  5. 94 on pump here but have seen it for 104!!
  6. I'd use it, but then my chipper has a proper inline injector pump wouldn't think twice.
  7. My RC2000 in action, with extra strap above keeping it in a nice tight position where it's easy to work, similar to marks. However I stupidly bought the stein strap for this thinking it might be special but it's just a very expensive cam type luggage strap :-( The device itself is great to use, my Groundy uses it very effectively for all sorts of rigging and with plenty of wraps even this substantial chunk of Cedar was easy to manage, so much so that I took a picture with my free hand!
  8. Doesn't it depend which grade of heating oil/kero it is as to weather it will run long term or not ? If lubricate is the main issue just add a gallon of cooking oil to every 5 of the heating oil that'll keep it lubed.
  9. Easy enough to rig up 3 way solenoids to switch feeds and returns to separate tanks like a twin tank veg oil kit, if your that way inclined of course. As for chippers there's never been a reason not to, although I know someone who runs theirs exclusively on white because they can't be bothered to get red!
  10. Just noticed you have covered all the shed roofs with ply, do you do this often?

  12. Shocking isn't it! I've lost out on a few very reasonably priced jobs of late. It's all very well everyone talking about pricing them accurately but you often get undercut by the guy who hasn't looked quite hard enough at them and not seen the 15ft overhanging on the neighbours side etc etc, I've heard of one contractor local to me apparently leaving a big conny job half done as the price was so far wrong it was costing him money each day they went back!

  14. How would opinions change if the price was to sub out to another firm? I don't think £250 for climber truck n chipper would be too bad then

  16. 200 for a whole day is madness that should be your profit!
  17. Only prune with one when preparing for a fell, great for pulling and pushing stuff and clearing up though.
  18. Why do you need a ticket ? Ive run them on plenty of small to medium size sites without dong groundworks and as part of tree work and no ones bothered. It you want it cheaper I found a few training providers who would allow you to just go and do the Assesment on its own which for 10+ is digging a trench to a give set of dimensions, grading the bottom as you usually would then back filling, dead easy is route was considerably cheaper but you still have to soothe GNVQ.
  19. I did a job earlier in the week, met the TO on site to discuss what we were going to do and it was slightly less than what the customer had in mind, I thought the end product looked good but it wasn't enough for them, no vehicular damage though.
  20. Exactly right, why climb when you can walk the first 25ft. I get a bit of abuse for wanting a ladder when subbing due to other climbers that love to struggle up the first bit of the tree rather than use a ladder. I love my triples, the A-frame capability is awesome too!
  21. Very good, I have a 935i and a 625i both very good machines especially the 935i with 50hp and 9x13" in feed!
  22. When people talk of the amount of men in a team it depends a lot on wether we are talking skilled guys or draggers. A boss/ climber and skilled groundy or boss/climber and £40 brush dragger are two different set ups on different budgets...same with bigger teams, I find adding labourers works wanders for production for minimal outlay however we never go into detail of what of men we're talking about.
  23. Is everyone really that keen to save firewood at the expense of time?
  24. Ok wouldn't bother with anything less than a Danequip 25sp or the equivalent dosko and Carlton models they make the job so much easier and are still nice and narrow
