  1. I have an old Palax combi. I process mainly spruce but some nice straight ash. I think it is great especially the conveyor so I don't have to throw the logs onto a pile or into a bag. The splitter can be a bit slow with the knotty spruce. One of my best buys. John
  2. I think it's value in the round is about £4.50 per hoppus ft.
  3. Yes, I saw it. My jaw dropped when it started to split, I could not see clearly enough ,to see why it happened.
  4. Too far from me. Try contacting Woodmizer UK , I am sure they will put you in touch with someone local. John
  5. As I was saying At the first camp site a van pulls in at about 9.30pm and starts to light a BBQ 3 kids,2 dogs 2 adults. They make noise till about 11.30 when the kids eventually go to bed. They must have slammed their van door shut 20 times.
  6. I find it really depressing that so many people don't know how to behave in a considerate way. I am just back from cycling the C2C ,Whitehaven to Sunderland. At the first campsite
  7. As a mobile miller I would not be able to offer any where near that amount. £200 would be my absolute maximum and then only if it was a woodland tree. John
  8. I would have been interested but it is too far from me. If it is 3rd diam then it would be a great shame to ring it up for logs. Any photos? John
  9. Where abouts is it? Is it a cedar of lebanon ? I may be interested in it to mill. John
  10. Filled a few bags and them burnt some small holes to see if I could make my own vented bags from the sheep feed bags I get from a friendly farmer. Has anyone had any success drying logs this way?
  11. I am glad they are asking £4.5k per acre as that means prices have gone up more than i thought. That does seem a bit steep for West Wales though.
  12. Have you looked at Raymond - Barkers site? Woodlands for Sale : Raymond Barker & Co
  13. As I was saying!how much per acre is the asking price? Our woods are near Llandovery , you would be welcome to come and have a chat about woodland ownership if you like. John
  14. It has been 4 years since we bought our woods and I think prices have risen considerably since then. How much per
  15. Ten acres of timber on a steep slope will not haves great value. The value of small woodland lies in their amenity value. We own woodlands in Wales and I would say if you have a choice don't buy one on a steep slope. You have to be super fit to be able to enjoy walking around them. Where abouts are you thinking of buying ? In the long term the value of land will rise as they no longer make it! John
  16. Yes that looks a superb mill. I watched the video of the first cut with the slabber. Would it not cut faster than that? John
  17. That looks a super mill, a lot more modern than mine. Have you sawn the back stop arms yet? They say you are not a proper Sawyer until you have ruined at least one blade on them. I am sure you won't regret purchasing a Woodmizer. John
  18. Here is the one I made up from bits I got from our local scrapyard.
  19. I would want £40 per ft3 for joinery quality dry oak.
  20. I have probably got some, I will look tomorrow. I am near Dunmow. John
  21. We own 20 acres of spruce woodland in Wales, clear felling about an acre a year. I mill the bigger butts and process the rest with a Palax . I am getting a good log pile now. Hopefuly I will be able to sell some next winter.
  22. I tested a bit of oak today that I milled last summer, been air drying in an open sided shed. 4 x 3 inch , meter read 38% in the middle.
  23. YouTube - ‪Log cutting‬‏ The camera person is normally the hander of logs and barrow emptier. All for home use only. John
  24. I have an Epic, I got it when they first came out. Great bike.
  25. Sorry, meant to type 19cm. That's 7.5 inches, no one is going to think that is worth £100 are they?
