  1. Are you sure it is not 19 inches diameter? At 19mm it is firewood.
  2. Last time I bought some I paid about £13 each for Woodmizer blades. John
  3. I have two like that. They will chase anything that moves with four legs but are not interested in anything with only two. They are Irish.
  4. Yes, I think an air rifle may be the solution but I don't know if the guinea fowl hold their heads still for long enough for my shooting skills. I have my eye on a nice Theoben rapid fac in .25 calibre which should sort them out. John
  5. I saw them again today, out for their lunch time stroll, all luvy dovey. I expect they go round hugging trees, eating wild garlic and happy mushrooms. No kids yet but no doubt they will arrive in a week or two. Don't they have any sense of history and tradition? A Fox should do what a Fox does best ..... KILL They must realise there is a group of seven of my neighbours guinea fowl and now 2 peacocks that congragate outside my bedroom window every moring. Croaking and calling at 4.00am, but can these foxes be bothered to do anything about it? NO, it makes my blood boil. End of rant John
  6. That sounds a nice mill. If I could get more butts to mill I would sell my 8inch Lucas and upgrade. John
  7. I would not bother milling this tree. Looks like turning blanks or firewood to me. Has anyone on here actually managed to sell a walnut stump? and for how much?
  8. I have started to use Poly X oil and have been pleased with the results. John
  9. Horses for courses. If you are going to get big logs in back gardens then get a swing mill. If you can get long straight woodland trees then get a bandmill. If your budget is £5000 then get a swing mill . If it is £10000 then get an hydraulic Woodmizer. If you are young and fit get a chainsaw mill. John
  10. Another photo of my little Zetor, this time with a Hesford winch on the back.
  11. I have an lt40 hydraulic. I was hoping you were in tractor distance from me but you are a bit too far away. John
  12. Last year I was offered £40 per ton for spruce delivered to the mill at Talley, which may be near you. I may be interested in the bigger logs. I have a Woodmizer in woods just out side Llandovery. Where abouts are the logs? John
  13. I am on the Herts Essex borders, but will travel.
  14. My stocks of Cedar of Lebanon are getting low, so I am looking for a nice big butt to mill. One of the first trees I milled was a C of L, about 4 foot diameter blown down in a church yard in Sible Hedingham in 1987.We milled it with a double headed chainsaw mill. Then I milled one at the bottom of the runway at Stansted airport, by this time I had got my Woodmizer:thumbup1: Please keep me in mind if you have one that needs to come down. John
  15. Have a look here, under log weight. http://www.forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=toolbox
  16. I would offer about £100 for it was reasonably local to me. As said above it is bound to be full of metal. John
  17. I think Hoppus feet is simply quarter of the girth squared times the length. I believe the Americans use more complicated scales with their Doyle and Scribner .
  18. One hoppus foot = 1.273 true ft3
  19. Yes , I would pay £6 or £7 a hoppus ft for good woodland butts delivered to my Woodmizer. Less if it is a hedgerow tree as the chances of hitting metal are much higher and there will be more wastage. It would take under an hour to mill it. If I have to travel to the log then realistically it is not going to take me less than half a day, probably longer to to mill and then get all the timber and the mill back home. I would not want to pay more than £4 and the further I have to travel the price would drop.
  20. TC Where abouts are you, I have a Lucas mill so may be interested. John
  21. Big Bolt That is a little Zetor compact, a poor man's Alpine tractor. With it's dual wheels it goes most places, has front and rear linkage and pto. It has a post peeler on the back in the photo.
  22. This is what I use My tractor is not roadworthy so I get a friendly farmer to use his tractor with my trailer to fetch any thing that needs to go via road. What part of Wales do you live in ? John
  23. I am in Essex, so too far from me. John
  24. Richie What part of the country are you in? john
  25. I got mine from the Ecolots website, or was it Woodlots I can't remember. Occasionally they come up on ebay. Great mill . John
