  1. I run a landrover 110 tipper 3500kg gross empty weighs 2200kg add driver and passenger 2400kg leaving me a good 1100kg for a load of chip. I tow a 12 x 6 3500kg trailer to carry tracked chipper and all other gear and still room and capacity for 1000kg logs before I am upto the 7000kg GTW. The tipping body is balanced ie same length of body each side of rear wheel, this helps with axle limits!
  2. is that a new fungus????
  3. They are at the Great Yorkshire Show give Chris Sheppard a ring on 07833091176 work mobile.
  4. What's the set up for Vat and firewood, buying standing timber and processing into split firewood sold to domestic and commercial markets? Cheers Brett
  5. take a look at this nissan babstar http://www.peremaimi.com/spa/item/nicbvolquete.html
  6. I tend to use the handbag technique once up the tree, works quite well and lot quicker than throw line, but can't lob it as far.
  7. Wonder if the council could be done for damaging a tree under TPO or conservation restrictions?
  8. Make sure your teeth are set up correctly, not sure about your machine but mine has 9 pairs but only 3 pairs do any cutting, if the leading teeth are not set right it will be like a spoon. My 13hp JBM would do that pine stump in 20min with sharp teeth!
  9. My hands would fall off with cramp after 2 seconds using 10mm rope I wouldn't mind trying a 14mm or even 15mm, if you could get it, slick smooth.
  10. Most rock climbing ropes are 11mm which is to small to get a decent grip, arb ropes tend to be 13mm.
  11. You can use it along side petrol but I found that some machines required the tick over screw increasing a little, once you start you will be reluctant to go back to pump petrol. Should be a legal requirement as in some Northern European countries, and available at the pump at a fair price!
  12. After reading a thread about back and joint pain, I thought I would start one about the most over looked risk to your health, 2 stroke exhaust fumes! If you are really concerned about your health, especially in later life, consider using Aspen fuel. I started using it about 6 years ago and straight away I could feel the difference, no dull head aches and no cacky throat. Also I found if I spilt it on my clothes there was almost no smell, and any smell gone within a minute or two, great if you need to carry or store saws in your cab or van. How many times have you been in the top of a hedge or in thick conifer brash, especially on a cold morning with your eyes stinging coughing up your ring. About twice the price of regular 2 stroke but better than lung cancer. If I had a choice over my chainsaw trousers or Aspen fuel I would chose Aspen fuel every time, a leg chainsaw injury is recoverable but long term lung disorders??? It's an essential piece of PPE that is commonly overlooked, plus it also has environmental benefits, got to be worth the extra!
  13. UPM and the FC bale up brash and harvest stumps for Biomass??
  14. Drove through Tomintoul in December and noticed several new looking TW chippers in a yard, easy to spot if you drive up the main street. Worth a look if you are near.
  15. It's already here it's called the Abororicultural Association and you can then pay to become a Arboricultural Approved Contractor.
  16. The old oil in your saw could have set, bio oil is prone to this, put some petrol in the oil tank and run up for a few minutes. If no joy check the oil pump drive.
  17. I wouldn't bother unless it's a 3500kg gross, by the time you have the tipping subframe, tipping gear sides etc your pay load will be small, also if your machine has extras such as winches etc this will also shrink your pay load.
  18. Average max age oak 300 years; age, pathogen or structural failure Tree approx age 150 years Average time remaining 150 years Minus 50% due to severe stem decay 75 years left divide by 100 trees 0.75 trees lost per year average Just a calculated guess?
  19. Same technique today if you use the Newman tree frame. Used one at college and worked a treat.
  20. You didn't answer my Educated Arborist question, who will loler inspect the tree I am climbing? I want to lower a large beech limb, don't know how heavy it is as I can't weigh it until I cut it off, will that anchor point I have chosen take the unknown mass of this limb? Well all this is for me to decide and estimate as a climber. My kit is useless loler tested or not if my judgment is wrong and the anchor point fails. If I can make judgments of this magnitude why can't I decide if my equipment it fit for the job??? Lolar for arb access and rigging gear is just a stupid waste of time and a bulls*** job! Who knows an injury/fatality as a direct result of equipment failure, I have read about many accidents related to tree failure or carelessness, and have witnessed the results of a fatality myself due to tree failure!!???
  21. Forgot to mention who will come and loler the tree I am climbing?????
  22. Can't understand why loler inspection is such a complex job? As described it is only an inspection nothing is tested, just a visual inspection how hard can it be, common sense? Stupid law that makes the job more difficult and expensive. I can fully understand testing real lifting equipment such as cranes and platforms, which are a bit more technical than a length of rope??? I know it needs to be done in the new world of no win no fee, but what a waste of time and money in my mind!!
  23. I use a prussik knot dead easy
  24. Get my blades from here genuine TW £49 per pair. May do deals on multibles? http://www.earborist.com/Brush-Chippers_GENUINE-TIMBERWOLF-TW150-BLADES_4431.php
  25. Took out my 254xp today after it had been on the shelf for a while, I had forgotten how good it is, loads of torque, smooth power and you can tune it properly unlike current saws. In my opinion the best saw ever made. I run mine with a 13" bar 3/8 50 link MINT!
