  3. No problem, can't wait to see that machine, will be like a trojan horse!!
  4. Make some wheels out of plyboard, job done!!
  5. Nowt wrong with that as long as you sew bits off and you lant it well!
  6. Smart bus! How do you find the front loader, I have been told that they are not ideal for an alpine tractor due to the weight distribution and work best with a reverse drive and rear loader?
  7. We were only permitted to use the tractor on the top of the dale, usually we have to work from the bottom up, hand ball if very steep or winch down in bundles which we have down to a fine art, through years of practice!
  8. We have to treat the stumps as we go immediately, good practice as you tend miss loads otherwise, the chem is sposed to be more effective on fresh cut stumps. Pleased with tractor so far ready for it's first service, could of used an alpine on that dale though!
  9. Next one down 3201, good little winch, nice and light and close coupled so you can lift a few butts with small tractor
  10. The plan is to stop further encroachment of scrub shading out the grassland, but I agree scrub in it's own right is a fantastic habitat, finding the balance is the key, but not for me to decide, I just do the cutting. We only had one fire site on a 1 ha site so nettle growth will be negligible Just near Millington on the Yorkshire Wolds, did consider cutting out the firewood but not really economical to do on this job and wanted to beat the weather. Got two more dales to clear this winter but the thorn is smaller more scrub like.
  11. English Nature Spec, something to do with thorn scrub destroying the habitat for rare plants exclusive to chalk grassland.
  12. Just a few pics of a scrub clearing job completed this week, good fun but seemed a shame to fell these big thorns, that's Natural England for you!
  13. If left in pole length could have used a small tractor and skidding winch for that small parcel.
  14. Billet in metre lengths stack to dry then cut to ordered size euro style!!
  15. Out of interest what's the cost of the Hornet Grinder, handy on my loader!
  16. I found unless your stump teeth are super sharp difficult to grind, you just bounce off the long fibers!
  17. Use Aspen Fuel! Kind to your lungs
  18. I am serious, I am getting myself a micro chipper, I do some railway clearance so will keep the tracked machine for now. When I think back there has been hundreds of jobs where a micro chipper would win hands down. I always thought they where a bit Mickey Mouse and be hard work how wrong!!!! Bet a lot of people laughed when micro diggers and dumpers where first used look at them now. bet they out sell there bigger bothers ten fold!!
  19. That's it then I am selling my tracked machine and going micro, that's the way forward!!!! Green or Yellow????? If I sell my landy and get a gas powered corsa van, my day rate has just been reduced and profits increased, I like your style Wee Shrek, any big timber will be snapped up like black gold by log hungry eco energy saving freaks!!
  20. who's that farmer with the rolled up sleeves trying to get his john deere self propelled forage harvester through his back door?
  21. Flat as a pancake in the woods where I work so don't have to worry about super gravity shunting me around!
  22. Leave it on the trailer, take on site, open the doors, aim your chipper spout and watch the chips fly into that luton!!
  23. Who can id this tree?
  24. That's the style I like, use what you have to hand, job done!
