  1. To change the mood somewhat as the thread's called 'general tree pics'... some trees I hope are not worked on. The sun setting the other evening below some of my neighbour's pines.
  2. I'd go with that. Once every few years it can be cut almost to the ground straight after flowering, i.e. now. I guess that may well be the kind of answer you were after. A good place for nests though just before you fire up the bruschcutter.. Info comes from personal experience and the RHS.

    Jokes???

Young lad asks his gran 'Nan, have you seen my tablets marked LSD?' 'Sod the tablets' says Nan - 'have you seen the dragons in kitchen?'
  4. Blimey, you've got a good phone: I'd be more than happy with those on my camera.
  5. If you're genuinely interested in it Andy and not in a tearing hurry I take my pickup to Tiverton two/three times a year and would happily collect for you. I'm sure we could fix the Surrey/Suffolk leg. Jon
  6. Came horribly close to getting this crittur with the spade a couple of hours ago; was keeping cool just under the surface of a pile of dry earth. Sorry about the focussing; still getting to grips with the new camera, which is supposed to autofocus.
  7. Look up the definition of 'harassment' first; they're probably well used to it and have answers ready along the lines of 'we're being reasonable so aren't guilty of harassment'.
  8. The roads are so bad in Southwark they won't make any difference. (But Lambeths' are a heap worse Hamish aren't they!)
  9. Another silly mistake to avoid:blushing:is to fill in one of those online consumer surveys. That led to calls here for about 18 months. The TPS does seem to work well but not 100%. I think one outfit has finally got the message that we don't want a holiday home in Florida.
  10. ...Not only bigger outfits. Went to price a straightforward removal of a 40' picea some weeks ago. We did it in an average day under average conditions - no issues like bad targets, poor access, rotten tree etc - so charged an average day price. When I'd quoted the client's face lit up as the only other quote he'd had (from a local small outfit)was 'well into four figures'. It took two blokes a day with two vehicles, three saws and a chipper. 'Four figures'!
  11. I know nowt about tachos but well said that man.
  12. Crikey; you fall out of a plane or something? I'm very happy not to have your back I must say. Perhaps you've had bad experiences of chiropracters but I've been 'cracked' many times (tight muscles, not bones) and have loved it. But that was done by osteopaths, including students under instruction. The only chiropracter I've been to - and am still seeing - uses deep tissue massage, mobilisation (a step down from manipulation) and the McTimony system which concentrates on the correct positioning of the vertrebrae. If one's out he places the heel of an open hand on it and knocks the hand part inwards and part away with his other hand - a sort of glancing blow. It works; I really know it the next day. Then again I don't have your problems by a country mile; I don't envy you them but best of luck with treatment. As an aside the same practice has a veterinary chiropracter. I know only one patient, a 10-year old mongrel who took on a new lease of life after having her back realigned!

    Jokes???

Bloke's shagging a 30-stone woman. 'Any chance of having the light out?' he asks. 'Why? Do you find me repulsive?' 'No; it's burning my arse'.
  14. Thanks for that. I'll definitely give it a go - if I can start it up; got it going yesterday and it died after ~30 seconds. Jon
  15. Graham: looking that one up (Scarce Chaser) I reckon you're right. Cheers, Jon
  16. A beauty from a garden pond a couple of years ago. I did look it up at the time but the grey matter not being what it was... ideas anyone...? The colour's good; the body really is sky blue, not pale grey.
  17. You've just described exactly the symptoms of my HS81R hedgecutter that was new in September; it's going back to Stihl as my local menders can't find anything wrong. I realise it's unlikely to be the same problem but I'll keep an eye on this thread in case we can advise each other. Mine has always started cold, then run fine for anything from 2 to 30 minutes. Then it just dies. Sometimes it'll restart, sometimes it won't. When left to go cold (20 minutes or so) it'll restart but throttling it kills it. Hopeless!
  18. Google says it was at Roundstone, Co. Galway. There's a whole blog on it including mention of another tired green truck that fell asleep while loading a ferry.
  19. Scotney; verrry nice. Haven't been there in years but should make the effort, especially as I'll bet it's looking better than ever. Good place.

    Feedback

Have met a couple from here, knew another pre-Arbtalk, got a huge favour done for a relative for the price of fuel and a slap up meal. Have got huge amounts of knowledge and tips from here and would like to think I've offered a bit back. And I offloaded a winch to some bloke in Cornwall:001_tt2:.

Aw guys...:blushing: Ady; glad to help out. Jon; you started by helping me out I seem to remember! Cheers all. Jon
  22. Have had similar experiences many times down the years but hats now off to Tandridge; they issue free permits to locally owned vans and pickups that allow you to drive in with domestic waste. So instead of walking in two sacks of greens from my own garden and having a row with someone who has absolutely no evidence that it's trade waste I can drive in and be smiled at as I dump garden greens, timber, metal, paper... The whole experience has turned round as a result of the scheme.
  23. No problems though you do need to make the effort to ensure the saw clicks into place. I even bought the Francital version of a sawpod for it. It's great value. Thinking about your 'inch' (er - professionally of course) it does stick a tad if your not inserting absolutely straight!

    ID help

Now you know it you'll be surprised how common it is. I'm a bit red-faced; I've got one in the garden and didn't have clue what the leaf was.
  25. As a sop you could offer the idea of felling for the view if they're that way inclined and getting a woodturner to make something of one or two of the rings. It's just a thought as to a way of softening the blow if they do decide it's gotta go but if the crown's receding upwards they're going to get the view back aren't they?
