  1. Did you?
  2. Ha ha. He was never going to get squashed (roll cage) but he should have hung onto the wheel for dear life.
  3. He had been caught - more than once - but not convicted. Failings in the way records of arrests and intelligence were kept and exchanged allowed him to slip through the vetting net, especially as he didn't play fair (irony) by using a false name in his job application. Sorry to be pedantic but Huntley's ability to do the job he did wasn't because he hadn't been caught; in that sense the system didn't fail. If it had been used well he would never have become caretaker at that school. In short human error, not system failure.
  4. Here we go - I think. Until 12 hours ago I was a Youtube virgin so be gentle darling. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct6mlCw8Vhc]YouTube - Unloading[/ame]
  5. Gone very quiet hasn't it. No reply to my post above despite the promised updates and I know someone that can't get an e-mail reply on the subject either...
  6. 'Fraid not. It works by strapping a rolled up plasticised sheet - looks like a roller blind - to the top edge of the tailgate. The sheet unwinds onto the empty pickup bed, the load goes on top. To unload you insert the handle into one end of the roller with the tailgate down and wind.
  7. That's the man. Jon
  8. I use it with my Navara but they're a 'one size fits all'.
  9. Yes. Bought one a couple of years ago and use it all the time for chip and logs. Flippin' brilliant. The only minor issues are that material tends to fall over your winding hand when unloading and stuff can get 'caught' in front of the wheel arches. You do need to move the vehicle forwards/material backwards halfway through a full load. On a good day you can clear 90% in one go, on a bad day 50% when the frontmost stuff doesn't grip the sheet. Early Sunday morning just gone I sent a full load of logs down a 10' hole under a pub in about 45 seconds. Where to get one... E-mail the USA and they should give you the phone number of a man in Louth, North Lincolnshire who is the only outlet in this country. No web address, just a phone number. Sorry, I don't have it any more. The price was I think £176 all in. Best of luck, Jon in damp Surrey (sorry Mendip!)
  10. Cheers. Have sent the info to a relative working for the Council grounds maintenance dept for that area though he probably knew about it already. Jon

    Jokes???

My missus thinks I'm immature and that we should set aside a day to sit down and talk about it. Yeah - like that's going to happen in the middle of the conker season.
  12. You're keeping us in suspenders. WHEN?! Cheers, Jon
  13. Cheers. Look forward to the pics. Jon

    Jokes???

Likewise - exactly. Go told to shut up from the next room so she doesn't miss any East-flippin-enders. Just brilliant but so simple when you think about it.
  15. Shot...at the roadside... couldn't have been whacked by a vehicle could he and some kind soul's put him out of his misery? I've often thought how I'd deal with a mortally wounded large animal I'd hit; finish it off with my bosun's pocketknife (my Navara doesn't have a gun rack)?! I'd give it a darned good go - anything's better than just leaving it writhing.
  16. A dead/dying tree produces the best wood for turners due to the slow drying of the wood so if yours is dying and not dead I'd guess you've got A1 turning wood.
  17. The branches are horrible to handle. If you're thinking of spiking you may find that the thick bark comes off in plates due to shrinkage of the dying wood underneath; you may have trouble gripping in other words. The wood; cut between the whorls and sell it to turners but not the lowest rings; the eyes are too small. Some seem to think that the wood's hard to cut but I've had no trouble as long as it's in reasonable condition. I think that once you've worked out a way of handling the branches (not your job perhaps!) you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. Best of luck.
  18. Does that apply equally to Deodar David? If so I'll put off a customer till the spring (which won't be a problem). Thanks, Jon
  19. It's 5 mins from M25 J6 - M-way all the way!
  20. I'd be surprise if the plant can't live with the scale but perhaps this'll help. Euonymus Scale Fact Sheet -- Woody Ornamental Integrated Pest Management at Penn State
  21. There's a certain Mr Leach on here who will be drooling into his soup when he sees that. If you have the patience let the turners at it; e-mail a few clubs if you don't know any. Good luck, Jon
