  1. Sounds very familiar. As was cancelling day 3 because you got the tree done in 2 days.
  2. Mostly dismantles as its in a botanical garden . I'd say there be about 10 straight fells, 30 odd with a winch tractor and the rest need climbing.
  3. Its gone OK thanks. I just ordered another gopro as I lost mine somewhere. I hope it turns up before we get to the biggest trees
  4. Lunchtime on todays Larch dismantaling job. 4 down 126 to go.
  5. Logs and woodchip in return for yard space, with trigger happy farmer and 2 feral dogs
  6. I have a mamouth job starting next week and would like to get some footage of some of it. I cant find my go pro, anyone kind enough to load me one for a few weeks?
  7. Nice video. I prefer music to the sound of chainsaws so added some Peter Tosh
  8. Ho much do you pay to insure tools against theft? Need insurance on 2 chippers, 1 grinder, saws, etc. Been quoted nearly 900 which seems quite a lot. What do other people pay and who with?
  9. Hi Ian. Can't see the vid on my phone but it sounds like a cut we have been using this summer. Do you mean a face cut, then saw all the way though the face and small.step.cut on the underside? That's a very useful cut for pulling big chunks off and ideal for verticle.speedlines
  10. Small job in Cardiff to fell a birch and extract through.a house as no access to garden. Fairly particular client who expects work to be done to a high standard. Please pm me for details.
  11. Nice winch idea. Cliff told me about the open day but i should be hiring one before then and use it for a while. How well would it gow a bigger chipper off road? Id like to get a jensen in and around a hilly garden and its sure be wet
  12. Ive had a carlton 4012 and 2010. 2010 gets in more places and although its harder to operate your in and grinding quicker than i use take unloading the big one off the trailer. Good machine. I have sandvick teeth on thdy are good but they can be a pain to sharpen
  13. What ever you do don't remove the old bracing.
  14. That looked like a tree to sort the men from the boys. Do you install a rescue line when your working on trees that size?
  15. Nice find Rob. Clever idea. On a similar theme have you seen this? Singapore’s Largest Garden Project to Sprout Solar Supertrees | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building
  16. East Devon Tree Care have a position available for a full time, junior climber/ground worker. We are a small, professional and busy AAAC based in Exmouth, Devon. We undertake a variety of tree work for Local Authorities, multiple large Estates and domestic customers. We are regularly involved in pruning and removing large trees throughout the county. We’re a full time tree surgery outfit, we don’t do any forestry, landscaping, grounds maintenance or firewood. We are looking for a junior climber/grounds man to join our busy team on a temporary full time, PAYE basis. This would suit a recent college leaver or someone who already has some industry experience and would like the opportunity to broaden their horizons. Unfortunately we are not able to consider applications without any existing industry experience. Ideally we could use someone who is already confident climbing and moving around in a tree but perhaps still needs some guidance with pruning, lowering and working in large trees. You will be working with an experienced team and will be encouraged to develop your climbing and ground skills with the support of other experienced team members. You will need to already have CS units up to 39, have your own transport to reach either our rural yard or be able to get to Exmouth in the morning to arrange a shared lift to the yard. We provide all PPE, climbing equipment, training, paid bank holidays and further 20 days paid holiday. We are offering a starting salary of £15,500 to £16,000 pa, plus overtime. This salary will rise with increased experience and responsibilities. Please email, including CV or brief covering letter to [email protected].
  17. Thanks for the advice. Im going to hire a boxer for 3 weeks for a job in november and see how it goes.
  18. I think the best choice is a 2nd hand boxer over a kanga. Anyone used the grapple attchement on the boxer? What weight does that lift?
  19. Have they got any massive dead redwoods up there stu? I hear there nice to climb. Thanks for you help last week mate. I'll mention the climb to out newest lad, he often takes a rope and harness home on weekends
  20. Stop it, just bought a new Jensen last week, this will cripple me. I called boxer yesterday, seems.2nd hand machines are like hens teeth
  21. Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought. Smallest boxer is 13k plus tax.
  22. Anybody own or use a Kanga Kid TK216? Im thinking or getting a machine that can tow the chipper around on rough ground and shift timber. It needs to be light enough and small enough to fit in the back of a 130 so I can still tow a chipper or trailer. Are these machines up to the job or is there a better alternative?
  23. Thanks guys. Now youve suggested Phaeolus I think thats what it must be. There was alco a withered fruiting body at the base of the tree in the undergrowth. I didnt take a close look to see what it was because I would have had to cut my way in with my machete and there were a few dog walkers close by.
