  3. Good job. It always looks so grey and over cast in Scotland
  4. No. I recon it will be to brittle
  5. Hi Paul. I used to use solarez for on the road surf board repairs. It does the job for a while but tends to turn brittle and chip off. Never found it set properly unless you use it on a very warm and sunny day in England either. Proper fibre glass is far better

  7. Not really sure what went wrong there. Did you fill out a near miss form, update your generic risk assesment and have a tool box talk to identify the error?

  9. Yes. I think he's leaving either this Tuesday or next Tuesday
  10. You back in nz Adam? Chris is returning next week with his permanent visa.
  11. Cool. It would be particularly good if anyone already commitment or interested has experience with gis mapping. This would help us add to or extend some maps we started working on last year
  12. Just to refresh this as we have 2 spaces to fill for the trip to make a group of 8. We will be able to visit and climb a range of trees in different environments from sub tropical gallery forests, savanna and within village communities. This is a non profit venture and the cost will include round trip flights from London to Banjul, accommodation, guides, all meals and local transport. We are looking to fly out of London on the 30th April for a week. We have the kind offer of full board five star accommodation at Mandina lodges and had the kind offer of assistance from the airline. This means we hope to be able to take a group on an organised adventure and raise a worthy donation to the makasutu wildlife trust. Money raised from the trip will be used to support health and education projects in local communities who we will visit. We also plan to work into this a way that participants have the opportunity to promote their own business as part of their involvement if they so wish. We are working on a total cost of £1200. If your interested please contact nod or myself direct at either [email protected] or [email protected]

  14. You'll need to plan your speedline based on the nature of the tree, site and size of the bits you want to rig. Dont over complicate things, but equally a little time setting up the correct system could save you hours. This is a link to the largest speedline I've set up, but it allowed us to rig out the whole crown in 3 hours. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uapE3Q-cdmc]Tree surgeon Exmouth - YouTube[/ame]
  15. That's what I'm starting to think. Anyone used the hinowa tracked machines? The 19m is only 2000kg, 6m out reach
  16. I would with an operator, but don't want to rely on that to finance getting a more expensive machine than I would normally consider
  17. Because of towing regs in the uk in needs to be sub 3500kg including weight of trailer. I'm looking at a 19m tracked machine but trying to digest the additional 10k on top of my ideal budget. Dean, any idea on the annual maintenance cost of your machine and average days a month it gets used?
  18. Thanks for the advice, gives me something to think about. Steering tlwards a tracked machine if i can find one tall, but light enough for the right price
  19. Thanks. I'm aware that platforms come in all shapes and sizes. The reason we are looking to buy one is that we have had a much better year financially and are likely to be in for a large tax bill unless we re invest a lot into kit. Although we use platforms when needed, if we had our own it would get a lot more use and would likely speed up a lot of work that perhaps a platform wouldn't get hired in for. What I'd like to know is what would be the single most versatile out of the options above?
  20. Hi and happy new year. I think we are in the market for a mewp this year and I'm a little unsure as to what would be the best machine for us. Our work is mostly domestic, LA and Estates. I am torn between either a 20m platform on a cabstar. 14m platform on a land rover, 19m tracked platform or a 25m on a 7.5t. My thoughts good and bad are. Cabstar: Pros - anyone can drive it, reasonably working heigh, compact. Cons - no off road capabilities, cant tow a chipper. Landrover: Pros - anyone can drive, will go off road (abit), can still tow a chipper with some models. Cons - pretty low working hieght. Tracked: Pros - will go most places, reasonable working height. Cons - expensive, ties up towing vehicle, heavy so will be lots of wear and tear on landrover moving to and from site, stabalising legs means not great for roadside work/narrow sites 7.5t: Good working height. Run on red deisel, lots of tool storage on board. Cons: big to set up, need to put staff through CE I'd appreciate any thoughts on this or any importanats pionts I might have missed. Mat
  21. I've taken saws in hold all luggage on flights. We just ran the saws dry and cleaned then and taken bars off. Checked in as chainsaws and taken through over sized luggage
