  1. Sorry David I said felled but I meant dismantled. Other tree were fine as was iron railings around redwood
  2. It's was a hypothetical question. I felled it today. I have only climbed twice in the last 5 months so it felt a bit weird. I wanted to see what other people thought about climbing it? Where we should be climbing stuff like that to save specimen trees and fences?
  3. So if its ok to climb. What's the best way to take it down. Little pieces of knock a big top straight out?
  4. Tree can't be felled otherwise the forestry team would have done it. It would side up one of 2 of the oldest wellingtonia a in uk There's quite a bit of decay. Hollow stem and buttress roots decayed on underside.partially lifted root plate. No other tres to tie in to.
  5. Out of interest do you guys think this tree is safe to climb? 35m Lawson cypress that was upright until last weeks storm
  6. Not much damage to the house by the look of it
  7. I'm using the motion tablet as it meets the requirements of surveying contract we have. Havent used it in heavy yet but it seems to be OK for what I need. Its also fast enough to run the desk top version of Arbor Cad which is a bonus. Previously I was using the much smaller gd3070 rugged tablet by general dymamics. It wasn't anywhere near as fast but is great for collecting survey info on xcel or word and is very rugged. I'm going to put this on ebay soon unless I get any offers? The gps and the camera need the drivers re-installing and I only have a car charger for it. If anyone wants it I'd sell it for a sensible offer
  8. Hi Im looking to replace our trusty Canter with a brand new 3c13 28. Anybody using one of these models 2012 or newer? How do you find it?
  9. We have a vacancy for an apprentice tree surgeon. The position is full time, 40hours a week with 28 days paid holiday. All training arranged through Bicton College of Agriculture. This position would suit somebody keen to get into the industry who wants to work with a busy professional company. We are looking for a hard working and motivated young individual with good time keeping and preferably their own means of transport, although it may be possible to get a lift to work from Exmouth. We are looking to recruit as soon as can be arranged. Please email any C.V's to [email protected]
  10. Maybe build flexibility rather than increasing wages? Our guys also get a salary. Paid a 9 hour day from 730 to 1630, breaks are paid as its hard to stop at set times each day. In reality finish time is up to them, they can finish between 4 and 5 whenever the jobs done and paperwork upto date. Over time paid from 4.30 only if leaving yard after 5, free to go home from 4 if everything is done. If they have had late finish in a month then they can trade overtime against going home early some days.
  11. Good on you for getting back to the gym, I guess any body weight lifting exercise will increase your power to weight ratio and be good for climbing. If your not on the tools everyday you need to switch to some sort of exercise or I guess or your body will go down hill. My diet is terrible but I'm not going to address that till after Xmas. Im aiming for 50 kg weighted pull ups and to added 15kg to the pyramid and final 30 by Easter. I Also try to kitesurf and play squash at least once a week each too
  12. Your rigging is loads better than some of your older videos. I bet that grcs is helping you a lot. There's so many ways to use them. Good video
  13. I'm a very infrequent climber now and felt it on the last few trees I took down. I bought a pull up bar in September since I last climbed. I now do every other day: 50 reps in a pyramid, any grip sets 40 seconds apart with just my body weight. Then 2 x 5 pull ups with 30kg weights and 2 x 5 parallel pull ups with 30kg. Then 3 x 10 pull ups no weight. Totaling 100. I weigh 70kg Next week will be the first time in 2 monthsI've climbed. I'm wandering if it will feel any different to last time?
  14. We have some early plans to do another trip in 2015
  15. Hey island. By running the trip we raise a pot of money which is going to be used to do 2 things. The first is to run micro projects through schools and other local institutes to raise money for the makasutu wildlife trust. Projects like setting up begetable gardens in schools so the school can sell produce to local hotels to fund running of the schools. another project was printing wildlife guides to be sold in the nature reserves. The other thing we have just lined up is a link with a Gambian primary school to a uk school so kids can share experiences and learn about issues/ life for kids the same age in other cultures.
  16. This tree scared the crap out of me twice. Pruning it and taking the thing down [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhQYPsMLOfk]34m Northofagus dismantle.SRT - YouTube[/ame]
  17. Panama vs Jamaica hip hop war in Panama City '99 was about the craziest music gig i ever went to. Don't get to see enough live music anymore
  18. At the embassy and the British ambassadors residence in buenas aires. I think it was 2008
  19. Yep. It was work at the embassy's and diplomatic residences
  20. Here's a few of mine from Argentina And here's a couple in Romania
  21. Thanks.what we are looking at is a structure just built with a estimated life span of 15 years. I think the tree will grow against it within 15 years but would like to find some information to reference
  22. Hi I am looking to find some information on average annual increment growth for early mature Common Beech if anyone can point me towards some reference material? We have a conflict with a newly built structure against the stems of some trees and would like to get an idea of the time frame before the structure or the trees may become damaged. Thanks, Mat
  23. It was cable but it was installed in a very strange configuration. 2 other identical braces failed on the same site which cause immediate tree failure. I was hoping to say hi at the conference last week, but didnt get the chance
