  1. No wasps this year but 2 bees nests. Had to don the bee suit yesterday with the help of a bee keeper and try to save the little fellows
  2. If there isn't sever bark death, just spots then nothing. If the tree is odviously dying back heavily from the tips then its reducing its own wind resistance quite effectivly. It it is this bad however it probably needs felling. I've seen quite a bit of limb failure in HC effected by BC. I have heard that this is due to timber fracturing as it dries. How effective pruning is at reducing this I am not sure as its not the end weight or wind resistance causing the limb failure if it really is caused by drying of the wood
  3. IMO I would say if the TO gave notification in writing the tre tree was ddd then he has no grounds to prosecute. On the other hand I have never recommended pruning a bleeding Chestnut free of other defects . I would assume that pruning may hasten the grip of the canker irespective of type of BC.   4. I've got a surplus in Devon I could sell but there is a lot of softwood. Trouble is its all tree surgery lumps not cord.
  5. have you been to your local library to check out any locally available grant schemes? Theres loads of weird ones. A mate of mine got one to fund a 2 month surf trip we did to indonesia years ago. It was a weird sports fund for locals set up in somones will. He found out about it and got a grand!
  6. Got it through Adrian Flux in the end, not too cheap, £800, but they were the only firm who would recognise a 130 single cab. NFU have been a total waste of time every time I've called them.
  7. Good pionts. Carries a load well, loads of power, pretty narrow. Bad pionts. Very bad on fuel compared to other 3.5tippers
  8. I can't seem to get cover on a 130 single cab tipper. All the companies I've tried will only insure a crew cab as a single cab is not on their systems. NFU will not give me insurance as I don't have an existing policy with them. Anyone know where I can get this truck insured?

  10. Not worth it imo. Been down that route and fell out with Midas as I refused to quote on incomplete map. They wanted me to price on dbh with no oportunity to visit the site. Some one esle did and they're welcome to it. Always want it done tommorow but pay after 90 days too. Also you end up pricing loads of work so they can price a tender they might not get. Had 4 different firms ask me to price a job this year that had already been done. In my experience they ask the last cheap contractor to price. If your cheap you'l price again. As soon as you don't get 2 or 3 jobs in a row you wouldn't hear from them for a few years. Not worth losing egulars as there is no loyalty from them

  12. I'm getting a 130 tipper to run along with a canter. Tried l200, transits, cabstar, reanolt traffic all sorts but none last. The canter is standing up to the job well and I hear good things about the isuzu's. Most likely as they are both based on bigger trucks but down rated to 3.5t

  14. Why not get a cheap transit tipper and a high side ifor williams trailer? Tools and logs in transit towing chiper, tons of room for debris in landy and trailer

    Your right though, if your keen you need to travel to get good waves consistently. It just doesn't get that good that often unless you live right on a really good break.
  20. We have a range of materials we could get locally, I beams, and concrete but the prefered method would be a type of compressed mud block that can be re-inforced with concrete and steels. They use theses to support water towers. I'm no engineer either thats why we are looking for help. I guess that by running the cables over or through the towers and secured to a hefty ground anchor, the lever pull on the towers can be reduced. This would load the towers more vertically not laterally where they have more stregnth. I dont think the tension on the cables needs to be cranked right up. I reccon we will need 4 cables. 2 for the walkway and 2 higher load bearing cables. The higher load bearing cables can have a big sag so there is not too much tension and support a level walkway with cable or chain droppers.
  21. I think your right dean. All the course I attended did was to teach you how to use the pink book. Could have just got a copy of a fiver and gone to work that day. Its the pink book that is best practice not a certificate of attendence on a pink book reading lesson
  22. Are you sure about this? I have a contract direct with highways and they only asked a minimun of one operative on each gang and a superviser who doesn't necessarily need to be on site.
  23. A bit off topic but I just bought a Landrover 130 tipper and plan to tow a 3.5t ifor trailer. This way I can legally carry a similar capacity to a 7.5t and only have to put guys though the trailer test. It is a joke though. I have c1+e or whatever it is. Doesn't mean I had a clue how to drive the thing when I first tor down telegraph hill in an overladen Leyland daf many years ago.

    I was on a 6'2 squash tail for a long time, replaced it with a 6'6 in North California last year as I'd been out the water a while. Never got the hang of long boarding, cant understand how you manage not duck diving?
