I'm having similar troubles. I'm not exhausting myself with trying to reason with a professional complainer. I told him he has 30 days to pay invoice, simples. If he doesn't after another 7 days then If he wants to give reasons why he isn't paying he can do it in front of a judge. I'll have my evidence he will have his. These people keep things vague to trip good guys up, I've been stung 3 times in a row with 3 customers in the last 4 months. I've had enough! -
Let him do the work, show you the cards, get a job simples!

It's very simple, cutting below the gob height makes it more difficult for the tree to go over, we can all agree on that I feel. Now use this information to your advantage where possible in a tree felling situation!

When cutting a large tree if you do the humbolt then the gob falls out, saves you hammering it with an axe or trying to kick it out.

Depends on the size of the trees, for domestic garden conny bashing and cherry tree pruning, there's no need for staff, especially if you have a micro chipper!

Jimbo if you don't understand it, it doesn't mean it's wrong! Spruce Pirate, meant half in half with starting the bore cut above then tapering down as you go around. It worked well on the tree I did on the picture above. That was a 100' pine that had grown with loads of space, so had the huge 30' plus branches, it was an outsider in a group of 5, you can see the buttress root on the left in the picture, I tied it into the buttress low down because that's good chewy strong wood in there. i could of put a tirfor on, shoved the 7 tonner against it, used wedges but I did it this way and it worked, would it of worked with a standard hinge and back cut, I'll never know. I don't think much now when I'm felling, I just sink the saw in and I take it from there, my brain just goes into auto pilot I find.

What if you don't want to use wedges, you want to use momentum rather than faff about lugging them to a job, so you do half and half, get it going then slow it down by coming below so the hinge doesn't tear out due to side weight? What if you want to do the back cut, get as far out the way as possible due to its location, say on a cliff edge then pull it over and you want it to go over as slowly as possible so not to damage say a Golf Tee?

I often fell lower than the bottom of the gob, it just holds a bit longer, so if I have a leaner and only a wedge and no better assistance and I have to take more out the hinge than I'd rather, I will go lower on the holding side. I wouldn't do it on sycamore, holly, chestnut or beech. I do on Oak, Birch and softwoods!

I'm well below it now, I only stay Vat for buying kit. I'm thinking on se registering tbh as fuel is down in price and my kit is all in good working order. Also the old van and Gloria was much less hassle tbh:)

It's ok shitting off the crowd part of the bucket but with s fixed grab it's like a robot, if working in a wood you can't pull things or drag brash from high areas very effectively!

Had a play with the grab today, effortless compared to the 3 tonner on bigger bits!

You have to add the vat and work like a dog and be miserable or pick your top 5 customers, ditch the rest and find another good 5 customers and repeat, charge them more, give them a better service, they will pay and unfortunately the ones you have been doing for years because they knew your granny will have to wait, and if you feel that bad, do them for next to nothing at the end of the day or week after you have made enough.

Unfortunately you need to accept your winning quotes percentage will go down, so you need to quote more and work harder to make the government more Tax for them.
