i can get a 6 inch tracked chipper for 100 quid a day or 400 a week, and i would could get a lad for 50 quid a day to feed it. i would supply the fuel. delivery is included.

i have seen them at shows and my mate swears by them. i heard they were about 400 quid, i think a load liner will be about 200. if you plan on keeping a pickup for a while its the business, water still gets by a load liner to let rust in, and they look really cool if you got your work logo done aswell.

go for it mate, life isnt a rehearsal, one less telesales guy in the world can only be a good thing. the only thing i would say is stay out of the tree just now, it is easier to teach a tree cutter to climb than a rock climber to cut trees. if you want to stay safe get loads of ground work and felling under your belt, you need to get work fit, and know how wood works. depending on species and time of year, it all acts different under the saw. this is the place to find some work experience mate

i put a new brain in it last year now it isnt working 3k worth. still under warranty though. 10ton tractor lying with its throat cut in a cylage pit. this will be a laugh getting it on a low loader.

my advice on buying kit is find a good mechanic first then buy the kit. downtime is the killer. if you have someone local already with a good hiab or cherrypicker that is reliable use them and keep your money in the bank. it means in times like this you arent having sleepless nights worrying about payments on kit. i am glad mine is paid for. but my tractor has a fault and the guy with the laptop to find the fault is in sweden and isnt back till next week.:mad1:but i had a day splitting logs and filling bags with my old man:001_smile:

you certainly seem to be getting the jobs in mick, good on you. since you do have good money on the job why dont you do some playing about with some of the kit edd and dean are talking about, if you are thinking on upgrading kit at some time this seems a good job to try it on. organise a demo of a tracked mewp and find a local guy with a hiab. personally both toys are great in the right situation, why not get both in on the same day save your wage bill and give the good lady an easy day.just my 2 sense worth mate.

it was just by chance the rig came along the road, sometimes its hard with pics to see scale. i couldnt fit most of the other trees in with my camera phone, heres one of the big girl with a 70 foot monkey puzzle beside her, or part of her:001_smile:

there are a lot of gardens open to the public around that area, dont know if they would let any monkey monkey. but there are loads of monster pines and firs you could go and climb at the side of the road:001_smile:. my parents used to stay up that way and when i was a kid i used to free climb some big sitkas, must have been around 100 feet then and that was 20 years ago, before all this harness mumbo jumbo lol.

cairndow, its at the top of loch fyne. the big one used to be the highest in the country. i think its about 240feet now but the top died, the larch is by far the most impressive. argyll has some huge trees mate.

i wish, i was just passing and couldnt resist a walk round. well worth a visit guys. if you plan on any sneaking up trees you better take one of those big boy catapults that i dont have. or spikes!!!

lol the guy on the phone is the guy who owns the house, he is a good guy. i cant say anything because i was playing with my phone too. i will find the pics of when i took his big oak down, you will see all the moss on the roof. hold your breath and cross your fingers. what do you think about this wee larch?
