  1. They were lucky there!! Had a big Silver fir to sort this morning, its well jammed up in a lime, its popped off ok, I took a lump off it and it see sawed and is now lying level both ends 15' up! I forgot a pic! Did some more of the windblown beech, got enough to get cars through. I'll need a big Hiab or machine to lift lump out.
  2. Ive never seen one of these before, very clever indeed:thumbup1: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJTmP3MhoZ4&feature=youtube_gdata_player]Rock Digger-Roadside Ironworks - YouTube[/ame]
  3. It's got about 10m straight up. It can be used for that if the occasion arises. I found out its not piped for grab but has the 2 spools capped off at the valve block, so not a big job to run hoses.
  4. If yor tractor has 1000 speed then this should sort your problem. If not I doubt paddles will be worn
  5. The price of the job shouldn't be dictated by distances or equipement. It's what it's worth. Ask the customer what he wants to pay for the job. If the job is worth £50, then it's up to you to deduct your expenses and then see if it's worthwhile for you to do it .
  6. They'll be in a shed by the end of the week:biggrin:
  7. Sounds like £30 to me and catch when passing. 4 blips with a saw and that's the felling sorted and a once over something else with a hedge cutter. Unless there 7' high oak stumps 4 ' wide and the bushes are the Rhodes are big enough you could hide a lorry behind then don't go bonkers, especially if it's your first job. Calculating how much fuel you use in a saw is taking it a bit far , a gallon of 2 stroke mix can make you a few £K, don't focus on the little twigs when there's a huge pile of brash needing chipped:laugh1:
  8. Great job, took kahoonies!! Well done!
  9. Spot on Steve, love the gap in the table idea for the bark and saw dust:thumbup1:
  10. On that tree, at that angle of the rope ?
  11. Yes those guys looked the type that had already assessed other avenues or put a throw line into a hardwood, in full leaf, especially since its not tied off at the trunk, I'm sure they throw lined in, throw lined back up and out giving a clear line to install their pull rope around the stem, back to them, and then put in a running bowline to run smoothly to the trunk.
  12. They had no control measures in place, and showed no concern to the public , other people were simply lucky they weren't around this crew at the time.
  13. £25k!! Now there's an invitation to the world to come get your money! is it viable, spend £25k on gadget machine, then you will need maintenance , repairs, insurances so there's £5k. So that's now £30k You might find you spend your life getting in and out of a cab, so not as practical as you think. With firewood you can't beat human beings when it comes to processing. 2 guys will do 5x more in a day for half the effort as 1 guy.( rough estimate for effect) You could make your life easier by only processing small diameter timber.
  14. Never ever call me again if you do:biggrin:
  15. That little wall was the trees downfall I think Tom that's very like where I worked with you with Gloria:001_smile:
  16. Mikes going to disqualify you for use of winch!! Get an old Hiab on that trailer, best thing you'll ever do
  17. You guys need a botex crane on your trailer:biggrin:
  18. I would say less chance of causing too much damage to the hedge, better to cut a branch than a stem, oh and it's just easier imo:biggrin:
