  1. It is s good read, i have been meaning to try making the green walnuts in honey, but there are not many walnut tree here in west Wales.
  2. Alder all the way, unlike willow or poplar it has a market for firewood, like its toes wet, and grows straight and tall, and quickly
  3. I am not entirely sure why or how it works, you need Rob to explain. I have tried using low pro for the felling competitions but it does not seem to be any quicker, and the thinner bar is too flexible for precision and accurate cuts.
  4. Less chain friction, quicker cut (possibly)
  5. Then you will need something that is heavier duty. The aluminium temporary roadway that bolts together is good but expensive. If the RPA is having to deal with construction traffic of 30 tons then you are going to damage the RPA/ and or the canopy no matter what you do. I would either re-route the traffic, or fell the tree and replant.
  6. 6" of woodchip, with 3/4" ply over the top will cope with most traffic upto about 3 tons in weight
  7. And highly valueable
  8. Can i just point out that you are driving on the wrong side of the road
  9. Highly indeed, worth at least $10,000.
  10. That's the one. Technically its a TD, but i blew up that engine, and now it's got a 300tdi in it.
  11. What a cracking shot of Labellula depressa.
  12. God you live in a loverley place.
  13. If i could afford new i would, but i can't so i have to mend and make do.
  14. The last couple of years about £250-£300 including the MOT. However this year just over a £1000. Still it is tax deductible.
  15. At the risk of derailing this thread, i have a spare Landrover manual if anyone wants to swap for something of similar ?
  16. Interesting, the one growing in my garden has never had any autumn color !
  17. Works well for poplar to.
  18. This is the fastest way that I have found to dry billets, stacked with a tarp over the top, and home made baffles along the side. Dries quick and no wet ends.
  19. Thanks for the replies, there are a number that i would not have though of. Cheers to the mighty ship of Arb talk
  20. Cheers peoples, good suggestions. Ruskins, my client is coming up with a list as well, and we will compare and argue. Squirrels are the only only issue, despite Bob's best efforts. And i am going for a riot of trees
  21. The location is reasonably sheltered, with deep fertile soil, and a southerly aspect. On my list so far: Himalayian birch and manchurian cherry planted in pairs so when they grow together it appears to one tree with a bi-coloured stem. Chinese scarlet rowan Mulberry Katsura
  22. I have to plant 140 trees this winter for a new arboretum. If you could plant one species, what would it be, and why ??
  23. Lely are the UK importer for Solo: Lely. give them a ring and they will be able to tell you your nearest dealer.
