  1. I think this is the problem: This guy has paid you cheques for the work undertaken by yourself. He has then realised that firstly you are not self employed and that secondly he would then be responsible for paying your NI and tax. At the point you give him a reciept for the payments you are then responsible to make these payments to HMRC. All depends on your original agreements but I woulnd give any kind of recipt untill you have recieved sound advice!
  2. I love that root system in the last pic! Nice to spend well earned time with the family, Elizabeth looks a beaut mate!
  3. only if they are tied around your waist!!! I think they are breathable arnt they?
  4. The answere is not a difinitive one but I'm sure you have made your choice from the comments made. Yes the tree will probably survive the drastic "topping" but SULE needs to be taken into account. The customer needs to be educated in best practise and the benefits of either retention with less dramtic remedial pruning or fell and replace, but as a contractor you obviously want the job. If all else fails top the sucker and dash with the cash!!
  5. Nice to get an open site and clear fell like that Dean, Wouldnt it be nice if that was job done with no clearing!
  6. Good job Bullman!! The shots of you in the canopy put it in better perspective the first one doesnt do the size of the job any justice!
  7. Liam - did you impale your hand on the fence to avoid the Monkey Puzzle on this job mate?! I'll get some shots of the completed site next week to finish off the thread!
  8. Pollarding should be undertaken on young trees, your client is requesting topping! Is it possible the tree could be lifted to allow the view? In response to "topping" the tree will try to compensate by adding foliage either where you cut or elsewhere. Trees tend to replace the foliage mass removed via pruning within 3years. Another reaction is new shoots growing, mainly near the cut. Which is bad as they tend to be weakly attached and grow rapidly and spindly.
  9. My wife came into the living room and asked whats on the tv? "dust!" I replied!
  10. A real man would have gaffer taped it up and finished the job, or in little Joe's case he would only have hit the side of the railings! Hope it heals fast man!
  11. Cheers Liam, it was good to have you on board (and on the fence!) Hope all goes well in your new position, and if it goes belly up you know where we are! Thanks also to Arbtalk - "connecting people!"
  12. Passed this fallen tree that had completely blocked the road I asked the police if they needed assisatnce but said someone was on there way, managed to go shopping and do a few other jobs by the time I came back here was still no one attending!
  13. The bad weather is here, a few fallen trees, limbs etc in the winds today causing problems. Did many people get called out on emergencies?
  14. go on the webside pal, its as easy as taking sweets from a child!
  15. I agree Dave, none of these actions will show any company in a positive light. Most customers are more than willing to pay up on completion providing you do a good job as per quotation. I have only had 1 customer in 11 years not pay (apart from bankrupsies) which was for £80.00 for felling a cherry tree, I dont think they had any intension of paying from the start! Our debt recovery company are dealing with this.
  16. Put the shoe on the clients foot and think what score she would have given you as a company?
  17. I thought that was a normal day? I'd process the invoice and deliver by hand to the customer and ask if she wants to pay now to save her the cost and hassle of postage and help with your cashflow. If you have done such a good and tidy job she should be more than willing to pay you. I would also type her a quote for the eucalyptus expalaining there may be a small amount of sawdust left on site due to the nature of the works and that this will decompose into the ground. Deliver this at the same time and you may get another job out of it and provided you price to allowing for her OCD your onto a winner!
  18. I've heard Wii are bringing out Wii Housewife, you use the joystick thinggy to simulate ironging, hoovering, drinking coffee etc..
  19. I like your thinking Huck - but keep it quiet or all the manufacturers might start making them
  20. The only vibes I'm getting are from you Johnny!!
  21. congrats my friend, welcome to the club of dirty nappies and sleepless nights - its a wonderfull rewarding place!
  22. MS260 is a nice lightweight saw that will deal with 15" timber all day long.
