  2. Belive they are called full wrap handles Steve. A big thing in Canada/America where they use bigger saws to harvest timber. Bigger saws were found to need bigger handles to posistion them properly.
  3. think it came in Nov' 2009?? Have to be able to name ten trees

  8. Some of the procceds of sale being donated Steve?
  9. Hiah dude. There are loads of advantages to using the hc. All depending on how you set it up though....Diffirent knots/hitches etc. The main ones though are self tending on accents and easier slack tending on branch walks. Decents are smooth too especially when using the hc rapide. Plus when hauling a saw into the tree can just send a loop down and get the groundie to pull the tail and send the saw up. Useful for bigger saws. Can be a bit of a pain to get it set up right...Depends on rope/cord combinations. Am sure many more people will comment and offer more advice.
  10. An old friend once had knee surgery and turned the scar into a zip with aid of some creative ink.

  15. hiah..yer the tail end of the lanyard is in the pouch. i run a 6m one so otherwise its a pita. prussik run through the pulley? think it was around a metre tho. its a large caritool on the harness, makes it so easy to hook up a saw,dnt even have to look most of the time.

  20. hiah mate how long is the contract?
  21. it was a nice tree......mate said it then caused a bit of disscussion with the arbs watching as to how they would then fell/dismantle it. bloody typical!
  22. Heard an interesting tale today. One of my friends is part of the local La team. There was a red oak in one of the local parks, Tree in question was being attacked big style by granoderma and had quite a heavy lean.Because of this was picked out to have some stress testing done. Think the park manager was keen to keep the tree for long as possible so wanted to be sure it was safe. From what i can gather testing involved fitting micrometers to the trunk, Then setting pull line/winch and putting some load on the tree. Trying to simulate wind/storm force i guess? consultant that was doing the testing has various comp' programmes with simulations according to dbh, amount of rot etc. im not sure exactly what load was estimated the tree could take but at about 1.6 tonne loading the tree gave up. my mate said there was a bang like a gun going off and a big shake of the ground and a crack bout 3 fingers width and running from 18" to bout 6 metres appeared. because this type of testing is quite rare there were bout 20-30 people watching-various arbs, other consultants etc and apparently nearly everyone jumped outta there skin. apparently the guy that was doing the testing was stumped, tree should have been sound for alot more pull then what was exerted on it......anybody heard anything about this?
  23. i know of a good bloke in llanmartin near chepstow if thats any good for you?
  24. ive got a copy.think i got it from the plant amnesty website. its says its a second edition-produced in 2005. if any body wants a copy ill try and get some photo copied???
  25. yep pull like trains.only ever need first gear when fully loaded with chipper.otherwise use 2nd all the time.full load is just over a tonne. have to be carefull when you are fully loaded.one of ours had gone in to fitters which had a good load on it.when it was tipped off the ram marked the prop shaft.
