It’s really good for cranking big pieces up away from targets as well. Oh, hold on….

Thanks Peds. As above Mick, can be useful for extra friction for lowering a bigger piece than you’d comfortably do by hand. It’s no bollard, though.

Fig 8 will definitely get you out of a spot and a capstan is better than trunk wraps, but a small fixed bollard is much more capable and easy to use. Only a couple of hundred quid.

I’d agree with most of that Conor, a good freelance climber is a good bang for buck earner, albeit with a limited shelf life. Not many will make it into their 40’s, let alone 50’s. The only insurance you might want to have is personal accident. Anything else is bollocks.

If she’s worried about the hours I would say she’s looking at the wrong career. As Mick says they tend to be normal, but on crappy hedgecutting jobs they can feel like 30-hour days.

I have to disagree Doug. If you can’t be bothered to get off your arse and vote then I don’t think you’re entitled to an opinion. It’s like the people who come to watch my kids football moaning about the cold because they couldn’t be bothered to put a jumper and a jacket on. It’s -2 and you’re wearing a t-shirt? Sympathy level is pretty low.

That’s not how it works though. I didn’t vote for the twats, but we live in a democracy. Anyone who didn’t vote has forfeited their right to complain for the next five years.
