  1. Good craic/explanations fellas, but above it all well done Dog. That’s a bloody big tree! Sitka?
  2. It wouldn’t make new builds too expensive mate. If you can retro-fit a whole system for a few grand it must be worth doing as part of a new build project costing £100k minimum, and everyone had to do it so you weren’t losing out to competitors? No brainer to me. I can’t think of a single valid reason the government doesn’t go with this. Unless the existing power companies have their snout in the policy trough....
  3. What I'm getting at is the government should be saying - You want to build a new house? Fine. Solar panels compulsory. End of. Level playing field for everyone, so no one could whinge about increased cost. Every new house energy self sufficient, and probably enough surplus to power the electric car on the drive.
  4. You're wasted in arb Peds. You should be the new energy supremo.
  5. I totally agree, but I don't like the way people driving electric cars think they are being super green. Don't they know how most electricity is still made? Chainsaws don't even come into the equation, we need to look at the bigger picture. If anyone can explain why solar panels aren't a legal requirement on every new build that would make me happy.
  6. What are the alternatives at the minute then?
  7. It's people like you who are ruining the industry.
  8. Opinions are good, that’s what makes Arbtalk. We obviously have different ones, that’s all. ?
  9. BREAKING NEWS - BREXIT STOPS TREES GROWING IN BRITAIN. Peds, why don’t you ride out a recession running an arb company first, then comment?
  10. It’s negative bollocks like that which will fuck the country right up.
  11. Thanks for that tip htb, I’ll give them a go. Mine hasn’t got any better, but it hasn’t got any worse. My hands are just useless when cold and wet. Jobs on the ground are fine, you can wear pretty much whatever you want, but the specifics of climbing are more tricky. Pfanner ice grip are the best I’ve tried. Cheap enough to rotate pairs at breaks so you always have dry warm ones. Base layers with thumb holes help, pulling your sleeve onto your hand. The single use shaky teabag style hand warmers get popped in when it’s really brutal. Last resort is a big pair of heated mitts with D-cell batteries in the wrist. You can’t work in them, but if you keep them in a joey pocket in your jacket you can stuff your hands in them for a minute or two now and then and get some heat back in to your fingers. Heater on full chat in the front of the Transit works as well, but I’ve struggled to get it up the tree so far.
  12. Tommy at Honey Brothers is the man to talk to.
  13. I’m from a valley in Northumberland. Saatchi and Saatchi never did beat a line to my door....
  14. Good effort though West. Positive response from my PC mates I’ve shared it with!
  15. Haha! @Rich Rule showed me a good one at the APF using a bowline on a bight where you leave the tail in the hole, which makes it easy to undo after heavy loading like winching or towing.
  16. That would annoy me, having to take a microwave in to work.
  17. It’s kind of weird to try and explain, but most shooting men have more respect for animals and wildlife than the average person. I’m not into pictures of trophy hunts though. I’ve got a belting pic of me holding up one of my first rabbits when I was a nipper, but I guess I just grew up. I find it sort of disrespectful to the quarry.
  18. There's no problems with you Reg, just solutions. What a stunning spot. I'll remember this tree next time someone has let a conny get to a crazy 30' near a gazebo and I have to avoid it.
  19. Mike on that shed roof. Brilliant!
  20. I’m really looking forward to the outcome of this. Good luck (you shouldn’t need it) and keep us posted.
