  1. 18 years folks.Left school for an HND in forestry,18 months pre course, decided not for me.Became a woodcutter,Forwarder that looks like fun(on a rainy day!) then harvester then bored then current business for 5 years. To late for me to much sawdust in the blood!
  2. I was being fussy with our job today but i've never been that fussy with a leylandii or likely to be!
  3. Just reduced 1 maple,3 whitebeams and 4 gean's today with said equipment. No noise,no petrol needed.Just for the blower to tidy up.Best way to reduce small trees IMO:001_cool:
  4. It's amazing how felling big trees properly looks easy tom.Nice to see somebody who knows what they're doing.Best bit is the felling, worst bit is the tidying up eh!

It'll be me felling it tom.Thought of ajs but they'll only take it if they're up this way and they're not very often. But i think they might make an exception for this one.Think if i remember stevie she is boss in the middle,it's been condemed for a couple of years, that'll be the reason.
  6. Might be worth tryin your office then stevie, the guy in the one up here wasn't that interested and his quote was not great either.
  7. Good stuff stevie. The old country payment system, glad to see it's not only up here it works.
  8. Did a job today for a small plane pilot who know's that guy.Not playing with a full deck he said,he also said if he'd landed it on the fairway he'd still have a plane. Not being a pilot,i think i'd prefer the fairway(or a golfer)
  9. The problem seems to be finding the right people.I have a small collection of stuff thats too good for firewood but to be honest some of the prices i've been offered uo here i'd be as well converting them into firewood to sell!
  10. That's the way to do it.Make a decent job and you'll get more.Worked for me when i started. It all about building a decent rep.
  11. I bought an edelrid cheaper cube thingy.Flaking- jist feed the line into some sort of recepticle, bucket for example, making circles in the bottom with the throwline till you reach the end.Make sure there are no twigs in there before you throw, then when you throw if you've ''flaked'' it properly the throwbag should reach really high,if not you've got a knot it the recepticle(cube, bucket etc)Practice makes perfect.
  12. Och aye the noo.Does that mean by the scotland area that there would be someone covering north and south jist.If so that's a hell of an area!
  13. Now i think on it it's probably bolted on.The motors on my jensen are and the blades are held on with grub screws. You have to take blades off to get motor shaft through the hole in side of roller housing.Don't know if yours is similar.Am sure you'll suss it oot.
  14. Couldn't really say.Any one i've into was keyed with a shaft seal, which you usually wreck removing it.Then think its jist an o-ring on the hose side which needed grease to put back in coz it really thin. It's amazing what you can learn if you take your time dismantling it an place the bits on a bit of clean blue paper.Had to myself coz the specialist mechanic dude wasn't cheap!
  15. Not meanin to be obvious but remember how you took it to bits always works for me.Use grease to hold the new seals in place when reassembling so they don't get squashed.Never seen a tp250 roller motor but done a few harvester head saw motors.

    sign combo?

We put our logo on the back of all our signs(750MM).It's quite obvious on the way out of the work site.I was told on my chapter 8 course if you had your name and number signwritten on your vehicle that was enough.
  17. Do you think they've had a fall out off the domestic variety?
  18. We put our lad through it, passed first time but not sure if we'd do it again, we only have a limited amount of trailers!
  19. If that's for steel rope i use clark's up in parkgate, dumfries. They can send them down to you.I have 2 blocks, one for the 12mm rope and a bigger one for the 16mm rope. The bigger block is 32t SWL smaller one 8t SWL i think. Both are swing cheek with swivel. You'll find them on the net or phone and ask for colin.
  20. The wood is pulp cut by harvester so should be clean.Tungsten blade on posch so no need t worry about chains.Think 3m lenghts will man handle onto in conveyor.
  21. I thought £20hr for kit an £15hr for man.Would that be there or thereabouts?
  22. I've been asked to do some mobile processing,I have a posch spaltfix 3000 and valmet 8100 with roofmount.Any thoughts on what kind of hourly rate i should charge for kit an 1 man operating it.Cheers in advance folks:001_cool:
  23. We pay £175 per load for haulage. That's a full wagon(6 wheeler)and drag load.We pay £25 to £30 per tonne for hardwood and no more than £20 for softwood.SIMPLES!
  24. Do you know where you stand in the system regards other companies? IMO you should ask discreetly if not at the beginning if any one else has quoted but at the end to find out how you compare! I am not suggesting that you level or compete with them, that just leads to cheap work.
