  1. There is another con going around as well, worth looking out for this side of xmas, or if you are wating for new kit to arrive. a couple of old people in my village have already fallen for it. Please pass on... Royal mail postal scam This scam has been confirmed by our Royal Mail account manager and is especially relevant as Christmas is fast approaching: A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 0207 2396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at Welcome to PhonepayPlus the regulator of phonepaid services, or your local trading standards office.
  2. Had a nice morning of felling 10 dead elms, crown raising a euc and removing a fallen willow all above a stream that came up to my ankle when I quoted it, it was up to my knees when I started, and by the time I finished it was up to my manhood! The customer decided thismorning to keep all the logs and said they wanted to burn the brash and didnt quibble about the price staying the same, and made lots of tea. Luckly I only live 5 mins away from jobsite, so ive been home, had a shower and have returned to the office to get the rest of my quotes typed up. No doubt I will get a tad wet again on Lifeboat duties tonight though.
  3. I love burnham beeches, didnt they film most of robin hood there?
  4. How the hell did someone find that out? I know, I will stick a load of toxic berrys up my rusty sherifs badge and see what happens!!! Bloody hippys
  5. I came out of college from doing an NA. arb, and it took about a week of f/t employment to realise that I knew very little about the industry, and after nearly 9 years im still learning. But then that is what I love about it, the evolution of arboriculture. New ideas, kit, and tricks make this one of the most exciting industries..................................................................................................................................................................in the world (jeremy clarkson style) My advise to anyone starting out in the industry would be, listen and learn as much as you can, and dont be afraid to voice opionions or ideas, look into the history of the industry (you dont know where you are going unless you know where you have been, will smith, men in black).
  6. View from mine
  7. 5'7 and 88.9kg Too many years of bulking up for rugby
  8. You want a grounds person, with their own chipper????
  9. I always 'inform' customers that there are people who will do it cheaper than us and to get a few quotes, but if someone does come back with a stupidly cheap quote to check insurance, certs etc. and explaing that it could end up costing more than the original quote. I know it may seem a bit unprofesional, but its more about educating people about the industry. I still get people asking me if I need a power socket for the saw!!!
  10. Morning all, raining quite hard down here, but forcast said it was going to clear up later. Got a day in the office sorting out paperwork , the guys have just left the yard all togged up.
  11. Here is a good start, failing that arbjobs.com, or even the aa website.
  12. Know your product, which woods burn best etc. I only sell logs that I use myself, if I find something is not quite ready or smokes a lot, I wont sell it. I live in a small village and word will soon travel if you are dishing out crap logs!
  13. We have a tracked chipper that is not used much at the moment, so I’m going to test the water and see if people want to rent it out, it will come with 1 operative who will hold relevant chipper tickets and a cscs card, (unfortunately no chainsaw ticket). We are based in North Devon but willing to send people further afield pending on the job. I have had a look around and seen that a tracked chipper would cost around £170 per day, with no operative. We will be looking at £250 per day, but would be able to do a deal on longer rentals. Anyway if anyone is interested please feel free to pm me.
