  1. 8 years, 26 hrs a day, 13 months a year(feels like it sometimes) on the tools, now have to wear a shirt to work most days and drive around looking at trees rather than climbing them, but your body cant cope with semi-pro rugby and tree climbing forever, so cutting down (no pun intended) on both of them.
  2. Morning all, I have just started a new job running the arboricultural department for Treescene landscaping Ltd in North Devon (no web site yet as its being revamped) We are looking for experienced subbie climbers and groundstaff idealy in or close to North Devon. Also looking to gather a database of subcontractor gangs in the Devon/Cornwall and possibly Somerset area to help cover an expanding workload. Please email me with relevent experience/tickets etc and day rates. Cheers, Stu [email protected]
  3. nice one! keep it up.
  4. It cant be any worse than performing other types of cuts in a tree, agree that experience and positioning play a major part, but you just have to be aware of the size of your bar!!
  5. I have been having the same problem down here in the north devon sticks!
  6. will do if I get to do it, am going to have to be nice to gibbon! the area we are working in has no access for a mewp so it will have to be done on rope and harness.
  7. my dad smoked for 30+yrs, and just woke up one morning and said he was stopping, and never smoked since, he gave up drinking as well in the same week (it was getting bit of a problem!) Im trying to get into the right mindset of giving up myself, but keep finding stupid little excuses not to stop, really want the mrs to give up with me, but she wont!!(my point proved!)
  8. I may be doing my first ones (in 7 years of climbing) next thurs, quite excited really!!! Thats what I love about this job, there is so much to learn, and many new things to try. If anyone could stand up and say they know every thing there is to know about tree work I would buy them a pint!!
  9. Diggerland all the way, Ive stolen my nephew a few times just to go myself!!!
  10. Only in Devon could we name a tree the 'no parking' tree
  11. we all leave our doors open in my village, not been a house theft for over 7yrs, they sometimes get locked during the summer when all the grockels come down though!
  12. these were a collection from a company I was subbing for in Henley last year.
  13. I was going to bid, but its local pick-up only! might send him a message and ask how much it would cost to deliver to North Devon
  14. will be interesting to watch that one and see how it ends.
  15. but its ok to leave the stumps, would that be insted of a cuppa then?
  16. So do the heavier staff get more than the lighter ones or is it the other way round?
  17. nice one, should keep you busy.
  18. So we have to start paying customers for the pleasure of removing 'mature' trees now? The access sounds a bit dodgy as well, im sure someone will make a fortune carting it all to the timber mill in a 4x4 or flatbed transit!!
  19. cool, will pop across after droping her ladyship off at work.
  20. lol, printed those leaflets yet?
  21. Or the coach and horses mabye???? George is in Braunton!!
  22. This is no place to be talking about the size of my helmet!
  23. these are all the emotions Iam feeling right now!
  24. thats the one, oh well will just have to sit and watch my mate trying to win masterchef insted!!!
  25. I dont think there is any guide to what colour, as long as you dont spray it or put stickers over it (the resin damages the plastic). but from a climbers point of view, the brighter the better. mine is an orange Petzel vertex vent, and I have never had any problems with it.
