  1. Yeah I didn't think that either! I was interested in how much the larges spend was that's all, I normally spend 75 to 100 but for the last few years have won v little, that's a raffle ! Every pound counts.
  2. Thats a good amount to spend, I'm gonna get another 25 quid o think to make it a straight 100.
  3. Am I right in thinking that the tdci puma engine has timing chains rather than a belt?
  4. Just out of interest Steve, what was the most spent by a single member last year?
  5. I agree eggs and having had it done to me (not for 5k mind) I would only employ with full tickets or go the official apprentice route, on going training is different and i do pay for that but only after a reasonable length of time.
  6. That's fair enough andy but after the 5k you have spent what happens in 6 months when he wants to go elsewhere?
  7. And who is paying for any training? to pay for tickets there is over 2k straight away.
  8. I wouldn't do it to be a reliable source of labour as there hardly ever there what with sick days, holidays and collage weeks. I wouldn't do it again. I employ 2 guys on paye and take work experience guys from the local collage have 1x first year and 1x second year which I pay a minimum wage but they get good work experience to be able to pass there course.
  9. Got mine yesterday Steve just the normal £75. Come on guys it's a bloody good charity.
  10. To the OP are you talking about taking on an official apprentice through the apprenticeship scheme or is it something your calling it by giving the lad down the road a job? An official apprentice through a collage will get approx £102 per week, all ppe has to be provided along with pay for attending collage and holiday pay, sick pay can be ssp, this is a minimum but can pay what ever you want. Although not vastly expensive it is a big comitment to a small firm as due to collage attendance holidays etc there not at work that much. If it's a young lad and your taking him on and calling him the apprentice then min wage kicks in at 6 pound odd an hour, you still have his ppe and holidays to pay . I have done it but wouldn't again as they never seem to be at work.
  11. Just going to get mine now Steve, well done to you Steve and to all the sponsor evolvement.
  12. Without beer goggles on I have tackled worse.....not by much though!
  13. Yeah a couple, I think the early machines suffered poor paint and build quality, some things over tightened some not tight enough, my machine had the hydraulic pump belt tentioned to tight and sagged the pump, was sorted next day no quibble at all, think they have got there quality control sorted now as my st8 is an animal.
  14. You can't over charge because you only have small kit, unfortunately it doesn't work like that, my grinder would gave that stump and roots done In 2hrs max therefore I can work cheaper but still make more. And don't bother asking as you will only get told what they want you to hear.
  15. I got and st6 2 years ago and have found redwood fantastic to deal with. Changed the 6 to an 8 3 months ago and will stick with forst.
  16. We are using your oil jon, v good chain oil and is well tacky, it seems to be a mixture of Mineral oil and slug snot!
  17. Totally different part of the world though, you guys have big trucks, big chippers and a massive country, here every other person with a tranny tipper is a "tree surgeon " working just to make a wage.
  18. Considering the kit we run £800 for that conny is fair however there are simply too many people willing to do it for alot less so 550 is top line round me. 750 for the Ash for me in grinding.
  19. Yeah nice site paul, will be seeing you at some point in 2016!
  20. I'm vat reg so saves quite a bit.
  21. Ain't bothered about vat as im vat reg and a pto shaft is around 100 quid so not too bad.
