  1. i actually spoke to him earlier today as he was meant to be collecting a valtra from my yard, what a small world! Will pm you about the chestnut.
  2. fencing materials in packs so flat or pole trailer wouldnt be a problem. can load with timber crane this end and have to organise a forklift the other side.
  3. Got an order for timber that needs hauling to ostende in belgium, does anyone have any contacts for drivers / companies that run abroad? I occasionally see european lorries bringing oak into the mills here then returning empty so ideally a back load would work out cheapest but as my foreign language abilities are non existent i dont know who to ask! Would probably be an artic or wag and drag load due to length.
  4. My valtra only has the 560 so a little less reach but I have a big front mounted tank and pump running off the crank so it has bags of speed and lifting power even on idle and doesn't take up the pto or spool valves.
  5. I have got a older valtra with botex roof mount, can't fault the build quality of the mountings and cab guards. Currently got one of those simplified non electronic valtras in my yard at the moment and they made a really nice job of refurbing and guarding it up.
  6. Nice chipping set up! One day hopefully!! That trailer is a monster, you must have some nice big rides to get that round in, so was your mate standing on the drawbar stirring the sticks when he flopped it over?
  7. hang a hydraulic cone splitter from the loader on a bracket then run it off the 3rd service on the loader hydraulics or if you havent got enough flow have a pto or crank driven pump and tank on the tractor to power it.
  8. i went in there recently as i wanted a new radio with bluetooth handsfree, they asked if i would like it fitted and i replied that i dont think i could fit under the little orange tent thing in the car park to which the spotty nerd laughed and says "why do you drive a tractor or sumink?" Well yes i replied. did you see me drive in? Look on his face was priceless as i led him out to the valtra!! Needless to say i fitted the radio myself as i think it all got a bit too much for him!
  9. i set up my business 6 years ago after returning from working in australia for nearly 2 years, it was a struggle to start with as people didnt know who i was and what i did. Work had no continuity and it was a guessing game what would happen but whenever i completed a job i used the money to pay for a course or some equipment and eventually i got more regular work from various sources and got known as a hard worker which then led to more work. I wasnt too proud to do other work whilst trying to acheive building my business, i have spent countless hours day and night tractor driving or fencing when ultimately i wanted to be working in the woods but if it pays the bills and makes a profit then im happy to do it.
  10. Theres plenty of work out there if you do the leg work to find it. There are countless threads on here about guys in similar situations as yourself and they have all been given the same advice, Get yourself known to local firms and be honest in your abilities. Its easy to sit at home and blame the world for not having a chance at something but if you dont put the effort in to make it work then what do you expect.
  11. cheers for the pictures and ideas fellas, should be able to build something half decent when i get a day spare in the workshop!
  12. im only down the road between ashford and tenterden, can come have a look and give you a price if you havent found anyone yet
  13. I found that literally minutes after the auction ended, would of been ideal for what I wanted.
  14. Its going on a 190hp tractor that's weighted up so fingers crossed it shouldn't pull it about too much. I didn't want to cultivate the first site as its up on the north downs which is all flint and was hoping not to bring it all up to the surface.
  15. Looking for pointers on building a linkage mounted tree whip planter to go behind my tractors as I'm getting quite a bit of planting work these days. Looking at pictures on the Internet of various machines I reckon I could build one easily enough but would be interested in people's input. I thought of having it mounted on a sliding headstock so that you could off set it to allow planting tight to fences and ditches etc
  16. Wont be able to make that as im working both days that weekend, sods law eh!!
  17. Yeah it's hytran for the back end on cases. When you drop the back end oil look for a brass coloured shimmer in the oil as that was always the early signs of brake problems.
  18. i did it for 18 months or so and loved it. Dont just stick to one place, see the country. Some of my best memories were in the little towns miles away from the big cities.
  19. Yeah, I'm up for it. Get the date up sharpish so I can move some work round to free up a day!
  20. second hand botex euro trailer, was meant to be here a week ago but still hasnt arrived!
  21. where is it in the south east and how much you got to shift?
  22. I'll get some this week mate, hopefully wilsons will get my trailer to me this week and I can get some wood back to the yard. Currently it's post knocking in a swamp!
  23. Depends on size of chipper, size of material being chipped. Machines don't slow down towards the end of the day like people!
  24. headcorn kent. i used to use them alot but go elsewhere these days, saying that im putting up 3/4 of a mile of their stuff at the moment.
