1. This is a quote from the guideance. Its is very open to interpritation. Can a trailer with a machine permanently fixed to it count as mobile machinery? I will have to ask DVSA re this.
2. Not sure if this would be a new trailer or an alteration of one. Also trailers that are fixed plant could be exempt anyway if I am understanding the regs correctly. .
3. Will need to be a big processor to do 18".
4. Replace the single axle with a braked single axle. Unless the tow vehicle is over 2600kg (ish to allow for extra weight of brake kit) then they still wont need a trailer licence.
5. Not so much a defence but mitigating circumstances.
6. After the death of the little girl due totally to the failure to fit a breakaway cable they are rightly very hot on it.
7. If you think its over 750kg they will be after you for a whole raft of regs. Over weight no brakes over axle loads poss over tyre rating Are you also worried re trailer licence? If so then being over 750kg might not be an issue dep on the vehicle you are towing it with. Is there not a large & easily unbolted part that can be removed for towing?
8. Does it have brakes? What weight is on the weight plate?
9. I get the feeling they might be doing that afterwards anyway. Just making sure your good for a blame claim first.
10. Day rate? Hourly rate? £X for the total job?
11. I check for play (wheel off ground) weekly. I might re grease 6 monthly. Doing about 600m per week. Sounds like iffy bearings. or just unlucky. What are the others like?
12. The newer ones are braked hubs & I think 900kg. I bet either cheap bearings or whoever did it dint grease them up properly.
13. How old is that splitter?
14. I have been looking into this. You might have been misinformed. Your right that trailers need an IVA. As far as I can see trailers that are fixed plant do not.
15.

Hi,

How much do you want for the processor?

16. Plus you will need business rates. Re measure to reduce the sound. Baffles are better than solid objects which tend to reflect the sound & it can the be re directed back by trees or buildings. With baffles the sound disperses in all directions so has no focused direction or energy.
17. 1, It has no suspension so does not meet the regulations. 2, It has no secondary coupling so does not meet the regulations. 3, The tyres supplied are only rated to 50mph but trailers are allowed to do 60mph & should be fitted with a higher rated tyre so does not meet the regulations. 4, All new trailers sold must have an IVA or test certificate. 5, It has no lights (but thats easy sorted).
18. Its a well known problem. The suspension is much harsher on a lorry. So the loads applied to the trailer are higher. Think of it this way. A seesaw with almost even weights on each end. You can raise & lower it & the forces stay similar. Now put a huge load on one end & a small one on the other. The small load will get accelerated about by small movements of the large load. I think it came to light when caravans were towed behind recovery trucks when the tow car broke down. I have a vague memory that they developed a hitch for them to reduce the shock loads.
19. I seriously considered one. The one feature that let it down for me was that its not legal to tow it on the road.
20. I would think that the main factor is that you are using what is basically a lorry to tow a car type trailer. It puts huge loads on the trailer & ball that it is just not designed for.
21. What about vibra post pushers? http://www.petrolpostdriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/slide6.jpg Homepage - Petrol Post Driver
22. What about an attachment for the breaker? A sort of cup near the top to sit the post in.
23. I have PM'ed to ask. Waiting for a reply. I guess they are at the RWS so might still be busy.
