  2. Dave, that is some quality work...your dad's got skills. Did you keep anything for yourself Andy or did it all go out..?
  3. jeez, tough crowd:scared1:

look forward to the photo's mate, looks like it had quite a spread. Was it all rigged down or a bit of crash bang involved as well..?
  7. nice work, that chipper sure looks sharp...
  8. iirc one of the idiot neighbours had a bonfire at the bottom of their garden, which is just the other side of the fence to the 2 tree's...one of the tree's had a pile of brash at the base of it, where the owner stacked the bits that dropped out over the years...and thats what caught fire. I expect it blazed quite hard and didn;t take long for the lower limbs to catch light, they were the closest together in the whole, row so the other one didn't stand a chance. re: throwbag - Yes mate, took more than one attempt I can tell you... ..and every year we say we must leave a line up the tree somewhere so we can just set up a rope next time...still haven't done it though l
  9. Spot on mate, the foliage caught very quickly, the bark was blackened top to bottom quite badly. All the branches remained in place so the wood didn;t burn, just the greenery. The fire brigade were called out and all they could was watch and hope. I went and had a gander the next morning and it was a very sorry sight. The singed one on the other side of the gap is actually re-shooting on the burnt ends...It also has a slightly blackened bark at the base of the tree.
  10. sorry, was just interested as to what happened...found your album in profile..cheers.
  11. bit off topic but Josh...have you a bigger version of your avatar..??
  12. Yes mate, did the left with your old rope and the right one with the bosses 40m sequoia...Little bit happier with it, tried some marlow 9mm prussik cord and it worked fine...Still feels a bit weedy in your hand though, put it up against my old blue streak and there's little to no difference in actual thickness....Just feels different.
  13. did you see Dangermen:Red Arrows the other night Matt..?? nice piccy btw.
  14. ditto, I don't always carry it though, just have a couple in the bag of tricks. Use it as an extension for cutting and holding, hold the sling/strop instead of the branch itself, cut - swing - drop..groundie takes it off and sends it back when/if I need/want it. Good when the branch is of a certain weight or thickness that you don't want to hold it with your hand but don't want to set up a rope.
  15. Thankfully no.... we're pretty well known in that village, do alot of work there. There's 10 welly's in a row there and I think I've climbed 4 of them altogether... Unfortunately they lost 2 of the row last year to fire...Someone had a bonfire and it caught one of the 2 tree's and they went up like a pair of 100ft roman candles... So there is a gap now in the row and you can just make out the singed ends of the tree on the other side of the gap to the 2 we did today. 2005 2008 We didn't get the job of clearing the destroyed ones up thank god, each house in that row owns one or 2 welly's, alot of responsibility. The bloke on the opposite end has started growing Ivy up the 3 he has in his garden, it must have reached 40ft at least now, and is 2 or 3 ft thick. BIG mistake. You would definitely need a mewp to get up them now.
  16. cheers guys, the one on the left is always a challenge, very little in the way of anchor points until you are at least halfway up...The other one is great, once you are 1/3rd the way up it is nice climbing all the way to the top.
  17. congrats mate.
  18. Looking down Stopped and had a nice smoke whilst looking out from the top of the world, then came down for some tea and cake. Good day.
  19. In the top Looking down on a huge pine that doesn't look that big from up here. The boss leant up against the van.
  20. Bit further up Nearly at the top Looking across at the top of the other tree, can actually sit out on the tops of this tree. (sitting on top 2005 - clicky clicky )
  21. removed deadwood from 2 wellingtonia fir's today. Also measured them, the one on the left is 36m and the one on the right is 41m. Each tree took about an hour and a half. I didn't take the camera up the first one as it is a very challenging climb, so all pics are from the tree on the right, bit easier to get up. About halfway up.
  22. on smaller tops or some limbs if you just hold the butt and let the end fall a tiny bit then flick it so it does kind of a somersault...or flick the butt round to the side like pete says...Very rarely use it though, needs to be enough room, and at just the right height.
  23. We've certainly done more than twice the amount of jobs where the customer keeps the wood this year...if not for themselves then for friends etc.
  24. nice pics husky king...are you laughing at your groundie in a "clear that up" kind of way in this picture..??..
