  3. really interesting thread monkeyd cheers for posting. Sorry for highjacking a bit but the avenue of plain trees reminded me of a an avenue of plain trees at a chateau i worked at whilst living in the south of france, it was rumored that napoleans army planted them to give shade to his troops who used the chateau as a cavalry stable Have been asked to do a little dead wooding on them as they drop a lot of dead limbs, Maybe later this year when i visit the family out there (bus mans holiday )

  9. I think that sett-up looks a lot of faff to tie up. I think that the hitchclimber vt sett-up used in its original form is the nuts and needs little if anything doing to it to make it work better. Keep it simple "If its not broke dont fix it"
  10. cheers......................might be worth it for a bit of pocket money Just got to get off this website (lol) bloody addictive.
  11. Nice work mate. Thinking of trying this, wonder if it would be worth carving a number of mushys up and running a small advert in the local rag. Trouble is im more often knackered after a days climbing and the last thing i would want to do is start carving........................Been promising the girlfriend to a carve some mushys for the garden better do this first

  15. They look like they would make access easy.....................but i bet they get in the way (cumbersome). This maybe a daft question but what do you do with it once you start work.....................just lower it down and transfer to a secondary working rope Sorry not much experience srt/big access climbs.
  16. good vid Like the shot where your under the porter wrap !
  17. 5 wraps on a hobbs that must have been a fair old bit of timber LOL It depends how long the groundies been doing the job, when i started grounding ive been pulled into the tree and i have to admit to not letting a branch run and nearly hitting the climber But everyday is a learning day and the more practice the better we become. Have to agree dont leave stubs there a nightmare for groundies when lowering brash.

    Too old?

The bloke i work with is 51 and is a top climber!!!!!!, been doing it for 25+ years and ive seen him leave over climbers for dust, learnt loads off this bloke..............."nuff respect". Its true Climbing gives you loads of aches and pains when you first start its just your body getting used to doing somthing that its not usually asked to do. Overall i think climbing is very positive and healthy for you no matter what the age. It tones you up (the ladys love it ) makes you phisically stronger and improves your stamina. Give it a go first Rec climbing see how you fair....................... A mate of mine who fancy's himself as a bit tough and handy had a go at climbing with me and could'nt even pull his weight up off the ground.....................So defo have a play at climbing to see if it suits you before taking the plunge and chasing a carrer in it.
  19. Excuse my ignorance, but can anyone tell me how would i attach a petzl swivel between my permanent ring on my harness and karb?
  20. Spent a fortune on fishing equipment over the years, rowing boat elecy engines, kit to cover all species methods. Now its arb gear......................now this IS expensive:scared1:
  21. Love the scottish scenery. Went to college there and try to visit a few times of year to fish, walk etc. For breathtaking scenery you cant beat the north west highlands (sutherland area) proper wild country!!! Would love to do some work up there.
