    Class 1 are normally only rated for small saws any saw bigger than a 201 and you should be wearing class 2. It’s all to do with chain speed as openspaceman said. Most people aren’t that fussy, but your insurance company might be if you cut your leg with a 660 in class 1

    I think you will struggle with under planting with anything but more chestnut, horse chestnut have a chemical called aesculin in them which inhibits other species growing under them.

    Young oak, beech and hornbeam will/can retain their leaves because the abscission cells haven’t developed. When these sp have been trimmed as a hedge they have been kept in their “zone of juvenility” . This is how I understand it. Can anybody elaborate?

    When I started I was dragging for 18 months before we were allowed to even pick up a saw, my boss then paid for mine and another “brash rats” climbing tickets, from then on we both hassled him on nearly every job to let us climb. If you find that you aren’t progressing at a speed that you think you should be then it maybe time to look for another employer.
