  1. lol Yes it is a bit freaky, dig your kids and their hats' I will change it! Yes it will be good to see you, I'm not that busy I can't yet. Cheers'
  2. Cheers, from what ive heard' the Horse Chestnut is not a long lasting wood, can any of you not tell me how long it would take to rot and be unstable?
  3. Whoohoo' Just bagged a nice job for Sunderland Council in Barnes Park, Two felled tree butts in which they want a pond life type sculpture and the other is up to me, not sure yet. Also two standing stems not as big in girth but pretty tall, one's pine and the other Horse Chestnut, these will just be have an Owl on top with Woodpeckers and Squirrels and whatever, going to have to use scaffolding on one and a cherry picker on the other, not looking forward to them cos I don't like heights' They also have a load of other felled trees to work with and have brought in some driftwood to place around the park, they are also in the process of a root sculpture garden in which they would like some carving work. I'm chuffed to bits' and really looking forward to 2010. Cheers, merry xmas and all the best to you's:thumbup: Tommy
  4. I could stop off in yorkshire on my way home the week after next, it will have to be at a services because I will have a trailer loaded up with Oak. If thats any good, what are you wanting to spend? Tommy
  5. Very cool and fast, have you carved the basket ball player yet Simon?
  6. No problem essential Arb, I really was joking' but now you'll have three different styles of carving and three different stories, four' if you find Rodney! Simon, I really am gutted I could not make the course, but I was truly broke due to not much carving work, and this bloody council rewire. Thanks to my brother for the treefelling the last two weeks and the rest of the winter I'm going to be ok, phew' I will be in touch or see you next year about another date! and Drat, I'm wondering how much Tim will have improved when I meet him again! Rodney was the first carver I met but I have not seen him since Ridgway the year before last, he told me he won't do the comps because of the poor expenses and poor auction money, I understand what he means now, if you don't sell your piece and your pretty desperate for money. Cheers Simon, best of luck to you'
  7. Cheers' Haha , I'm only joking.
  8. Cheers, I have used Danish on the Yew coat hanger and used the Natural Ronseal decking oil on the bigger carvings. Ronseal - Product Details - Decking Oil I bought one of those green plastic pump spray bottles and it was great and quick to apply the Oil, but like I thought it broke very quickly and went in the bin! A compressor and spray gun is the way to do it, I have the compressor now just need a cheap gun. Thanks, Tommy
  9. Nice work, good idea with the Duck! You can do that with dogs too, I carved this in Tennessee.
  10. Thanks, I am hoping for more work in Stirling but have not heard nothing yet, fingers crossed. Must show you her I mean a view from the back' lol Going to see the standing Monkey puzzle Sat, hope its a big one
  11. Busy felling now so nothing new, here's a Yew Man I quickly made for the house, it has coat hooks on now and is on the wall. And here is the Leda and the Swan piece I carved at Tatton park and the Dragons pearl, they are on display in a garden center in Durham that has given me a field to carve in when I want for a percentage of sales. Cheers, Tommy
  12. No problem, it would of been another month before I could get over with the trailer, pleased your happy with your deal. Cheers Tommy
  13. Nice work, like the big Owl and the little lady and the door at the bottom. Cool'
  14. Oh mannnn! Simon and now mr Tilley there all jumping in, I thought you were looking for Rodney, I'm a dumb nut! Hey' I was here first can you fit me in toooooo? Tommy treesculpting
  15. Thanks for the pics, I'm interested in the big pieces, the really short ones I'm not bothered about. It will probably be two weeks before I can pick a load up if thats alright, I will call you a few days beforehand to discuss it more. Thanks Tommy
  16. What they said Simon' You could also have one of these' gallery_castle I would like to buy it all but could I pay for and pick up a piece at a time of this Tree?
  17. You could also try these, about the same price. Ian W. Wallace, home of the Craft Insurance scheme for individual craftsmen and craft groups and clubs in the UK and Republic of Ireland. I am insured through them for demos but It does not cover me for tree felling work which is why I am looking elsewhere. Can anybody tell me who to go with?
  18. If you are willing to drive to Woking Surrey, I will be felling for my Brother there next week for a few weeks-month. I was not on the job last year but my Brother felled some big Sweet chestnuts, I will be bagging some for myself if they is but if your interested, I will see whats there. They should be an abundance of Oak though.
  19. Thanks, They are few and far between but I have a another commission to price, the wood is Monkey Puzzel and is supposed to be 1m diameter, can anyone tell me what it is like to cut and how does it fair weather wise? Thanks Tommy
  20. 6'8" cool' very large character. good pics Cheers, Tommy
  21. Lovely piece of Cedar Not getting any carving in due to a full rewire and heating system, and having to decorate the whole house, but managed to fit this commission in, a bit of a rush job, two days. Cheers Tommy
  22. The carver in Dumfries is Rodney Holland, chainsaw carving UK, chainsaw sculpture Scotland, Dumfriesshire
  23. Wow, I would love to come a cross a burr that size myself sometime, love the fireplace.
  24. I use these 4" discs, but they are called sabre, you can also get all sorts of shaped burrs to fit a straight die grinder. I don't use the 4" discs as much now but they are great for rapid removal of wood, I have the mini arbortech attatchment with the tungston carbon tipped cutter don't bother with the cutter any more because you can not cut very deeply. It is good tool because I can run the same kind of discs in the 2" version which is great for shaping. I don't like the look of those lancelot discs with cutting chain, its scary enough using a grinder with just a sanding disc on, a chainsaw with a carving bar is much safer! Tommy
