  1. Ahhh right, he certainly has your style, very good.
  2. Cheers, got it finished today thank god, lol
  3. Cheers for that Rob and I will be in touch when I can buy. I make similar benches where the top just sits on top of the bases, and all I do is drill a hole in the top and base and place a dowell to stop the top sliding, simple! gallery_bench
  4. Good to meet you there, I don't think I will bother next year mind' thanks, Tommy
  5. Hi Si, I am on one in November with Simon, if you want a course this is the man! I think the Ledzeppelin carving was Simons, was it?
  6. Nice benches, I will be wanting to buy a mill in a few months time Rob, any info appreciated.
  7. Back at this, must get it finished this week. Had to do a bit of glueing and bolting to stop her falling off, it was a natural seam where the tree had stemmed in to two. It worked and its nice and tight, used a hole saw to make the plugs for the holes. Cheers,
  8. The Makita file sander is great, I have the black and decker version much cheaper but its crap, and I will bury the makita as soon as I can.

  11. Spent 5 1/2 days there but I was stopped by loads of public coming up to watch and ask lots of questions, and the local press one day with loads of kids from the caravan park at the bottom of the wood. All good publicity for me, so forgot about the price of the £1000 I carved it for!!! Carving new life from tree (From The Northern Echo) Thanks'

  15. Nice to meet you up there' Don't remember what the lady sold for but my Dragon went for £80.00 should of put a reserve on it! wasn't very happy with it anyway My 30 minute Owl went for a £100.00 to top it off, lol There was some good carvings produced in four hours, and although its the first event I have gone home out of pocket it was a big learning experience.
  16. Been deleting photos in photobucket, not realising they would disapear here! Thanks for the comments, I am carving at Tatton park, I think there is more on the list than last year so loads of good competitors, then its carrbridge the week after. Thanks, Tommy

  18. This is a Piece of Sweet Chestnut I started last march and left, I am now carving it inbetween jobs I have, Its a piece I just want to carve for myself and have made it up in my head, I have not used any images or drawings and have not drawn on the log at all, it never works out the way I want it due to cock-ups so I make changes as necessary. There is a Turtle to carve in the Dragons hand then its sanding, Holidays next week but I will get back to it when I'm back to finish it up. Cheers Tommy
  19. LOL good one! Brian, I usualy pick something I want to carve then look for an appropriate size log but sometimes I can visualise things straight away in unusual shapes of tree. I will show you my latest. Thanks
  20. Thanks for that info, my elbows are still hurting but not as bad, but I have pain in both wrists now.
  21. Carved this Poplar last week, I will be applying preserver and oil this week. I put a cut about six inches in all around the bottom to stop the tree shooting away again, will this work and how long do you think the carving will last?
  22. Get an ms200 with a 10" carving bar, you will love it
