  1. Just out of interest. What is the exact figure that you think you are worth? And how did you come to that figure? I'm genuinely interested as I work out my day rate on overheads, equipment, insurance etc etc not how quick I can bash out a reduction?
  2. I wasn't trying to say that your ability wasn't worth alot more than £50 a day. I was trying to point out the attitude that you seemed to come across with. If you had said something along the lines of " my qualifications and experience lead me to firmly believe that I am worth a high wage as my work ethics and capabilities will not only be a huge asset to any company but also my speed and agility will be so productive that maximum profit will be achieved by the company enabling them to be able to afford to pay me such a premium wage even through an economic downturn where other companies are struggling". Then maybe you might have got a different response.
  3. Brodie, if you don't mind me asking: what's happened to all your other jobs in the last 11 years?
  4. Loads of people have then tickets so wages can realistically decrease because people are desperate for jobs.
  5. Opening a thread with "I can't and won't work for low wages" isn't gonna sell your ability.
  6. And probably bring their own gear and insurance and stay till it gets dark.
  7. If I remember correctly he was looking for a groundie for £50 a day
  8. I'm not saying I do that. I'm self employed and freelance climb for other people. For a minimum of £150 a day. But when times are hard, i work to pay bills and keep a roof over my familys head and food on the table. No matter how dangerous the job is or how many of my super skills I need to call upon.
  9. Ironic how honest that statement is. Haha
  10. Yeah well done. This has however been discussed before and you can attain the correct tickets to be a badass risk taking climber in about 3 weeks, which makes our job technically classed as unskilled. Sorry.
  11. I'd rather work 5 days a week for £50 a day doing a job I loved and go home happy to my family every day than work for £100 a day and spend all my time moaning about how crap my job is. Maybe just me.
  12. Tesco workers earn national minimum wage don't they? What's a climbers wage these days £8 an hour?
  13. Or popping along to see how they are getting on.
  14. Don't all major retailers do "secret shops"?
  15. If you read my comment after that one you will see that I know realise it wasn't meant with malice. I just don't think it was needed. Sorry.
  16. Yup. It was on a large estate we do the tree work for and we aren't usually allowed to do any work during nesting periods. Only needed work over footpaths etc. This ash had large amounts of dead over the main half mile walk in the grounds so was checked visually for nests and or bats before the go ahead was given. Barney was just too well hidden. The estate manager is one of the ground crew on all tree jobs so calling a halt is no hassle at all and luckily on a large estate like this there is always some deadwood or something to go at to fill a day in.

    awareness test

As soon as they started passing I thought " what's the guy in bear costume gonna do"? NOT counted 13 though.
  18. Not only hypocritical and illegal but also very honest.
  19. Yeah i fully appreciate how it was meant mate, don't worry. Just thought it was slightly unneccesary. Twas all.
  20. So how much is one of them?
  21. Frightening though isn't it. We think we are safe because there are no snakes or spiders or bears in this country.
  22. It comes and goes depending on how sympathetic our lass is feeling. When she is being Florence nightingale it is absolute agony, when she is busy it seems to get a bit better (well enough to hammer Gears of War 2 on xbox)
  23. Well I hope I do. I'm at deaths door mate.
  24. Cool, always best to allow extra, that's profit. Cost of transporting timber and chips away depend on distance from yard etc Big drag outs are always best with cheap labour. Loads of kids on here at moment begging for a "break". Get em in on a trial. Haha
  25. You might as well have stayed in mate. That hinge is appauling. I'm embarrased for you.
