  2. can we get Arbtalk on my mobile yet??? hahahaha "Frank has just signed in on Blackberry"
  3. the main piece of ppe I need on a regular basis is the sheath for my silky. haha. and as stated previously anything slightly more restrictive than a t-shirt would become obtrusive and annoying, It would not be possible to make anything chainsaw protective light enough. I dont think.................although I said we would never watch t.v on a mobile phone.
  4. Seems to me I need to be investing in some manly braces.
  5. haha, you sound soooo much like my dodgy next door neighbour. although I'm not sure he has firearms cert.
  6. I know someone who wears neither.
  7. so....not samson arbormaster "ALL" the way then. teehee:001_tongue:
  8. Congratulations mate. This is what life is all about. Heres to some sleepless nights ahead haha. All the best for the future bud.
  9. in my experience, someone saying they were lowering a tonne, was probably more like 250kgs max. But i wasnt there. Anyway, the point you were making was incredibly valid. Risk assessment can only tell you so much, there is always something not accounted for and will teach you a lesson. We are all still learning and none off us will ever know everything, or be able to foresee everything. Concentration is vital. especially whilst collecting timber out of the sky.
  10. Aside from emergencies, it is first come first serve as far as I'm concerned. a vast percentage of work to be done isnt desperate, so explain how busy you are because of the good reputation that you have. You may have to jig some things round i.e the ones that arent fussed at all and the "desperate dans", to keep everyone happy. How long a customer will be prepared to wait will depend on so many different factors. Me and a friend of mine quoted 14 trees at an equestrian centre, quoted per tree as seperate jobs. Quoted 14 months ago. 12 trees down. But then again I quoted a scotty for a builder that needed to be down by lunchtime the next day, so a quick jig, couple of phone calls and an extortionate invoice later, job was fitted in and everyones happy.
  11. Are you going to work as a receptionist or security guard or are we talking doctor or surgeon, only if thats the case then you will have to do some serious studying and I dont think NFU Mutual will cover you for triple heart bypass....................Oh are you talking about working on the trees in hospital grounds oh hahahaha:blushing:
  12. Where is this "chainsaw shop"? haha sounds like a wonderful place.:001_tongue:
  13. Yeah!!!!!!!!!! thats the one i got. (sorry i mean bought for my lad) haha
  14. much more Guitar hero and my wife said I'm gonna be single. She's only jealous.
  15. i can tie a figure of 8 in my tail. hahahahaha (she wishes)
  16. In fact I'm going back on it. Got to get 100% on MUSE - Knights of Cydonia. Bye
  17. Congrats on the engagement. Beofre you know it you will be stood up giving your speech and then it will be all over haha. On to xmas presents, I bought my 7 yr old son the single most bestest present ever, and I havent put it down since. In fact I'm seriously lacking in motivation to do anything else. EVER AGAIN. Actually contemplating a career change aswell. GUITAR HERO (for the WII) "OH MY GOD IT'S AWESOME". I have beat Slash from Guns n Roses in a mind mashing solo battle. and can rock out with the very best of them (in easy mode). Just not enough hours in the day for real life anymore.
  18. and going back to the original question. NO I DONT WISH SOMEONE WOULD "RUN AMOCK" WITH A CHAINSAW. If by this you mean some sort of a killing rampage then your insane. Why on earth would you wish for innocent people to die or be seriously injured just so you would get more work. Mental.
  19. this is what ive been saying for ages now. The public should be aware of rules an regulations. Like you say, we dont let just anyone mess with our gas or electricity and the public know full well. Need to do a rogue traders programme or some sort of shocking tv advert campaign to show the risks and then we will all have to pay the money and become AA or ISA or some other governing body registered. Public awareness is the problem not buying chainsaws in B&Q. Does ( for example) a 55 year old home owner not have the right to saw up firewood on his own property with his own chainsaw???? I believe he has every right and shouldnt need to be qualified, insured and registered to do so.

    EBay failure!

I didnt understand any of that.
  21. yeah, if I have to go far to do a quote, I go on a weekend and take the wife and little-un, make plans to go somewhere near-by and stop at the tree en-route. Also, using the wifes 1.0 litre corsa for quoting keeps prices down.

heres that pic I promised, not very good, but shows the rot. They are supposed to be roots. Winch pulled it over in a one-er with no chainsaw.
  23. thats pretty much what i figured. Cheers guys. Tied it on a bit of rope lying around the other day and it looked neat and compact and seemed to grip instantly but as you said it also seemed to stay fairly firm. Didnt know if it may be different in an actual climbing set-up. Stick with my v.t then.

You'd be surprised at how strong beech is. Climbed a dead ash the other day and my spikes were smashing through about 6 inches of mulch. It was disintegrating. Thought better and Got bout 20ft up and tied a strop round it. Clipped the steel rope on and winched the tree over without a chainsaw going near it. I'll put pics up later on.
