  1. ... then maybe its time to stop, eh Amy!?
  2. My favourite spot, was a small village called Brockweir, just up from Tintern Abbey, in the Wye valley. Bootiful area even when not hunting in the shroom season. Just had tomorrow's (Fri) job cancelled Mistahbenn. Tis horribly quiet in these here parts at the moment. But have been contacting more and more members on AT, so hopefully as the saying goes "throw enough poo at the walls and sooner or later somethings going to stick". Wanna sponsor me for a green card?
  3. Hey Blindman, CSCS is a construction services registration card. Easily attainable for £40- £50, short training course and a test. Without one you will not be able to get access onto a construction site. It is now a mandatory requirement for all construction sites across UK in another piece of OTT Health & Safety legislation.
  4. Snap. Use to live in Newport many moons ago, use to spend many an autumnal weekend walking Offa's Dyke bordering Gloucestershire and collected bag fulls of these rascals. Crazy times and much Cheshire Cat gurning followed... hahaha
  5. Yeah, and er... "ahem" that knot makes a perfect ring!!!!!! Sorry, could'nt help myself. Good work though.

  8. They will be VAT free if you are buying them for yourself. But not if you buy them for your mum..... This link explains all:- http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/20106-boots-vat-add-add-not.html Knowledge is Power.
  9. Quoting Steve Bullman: "seems to me, its probably easier from the retailers point of view to just list everything with the vat on " Your right Steve, I totally get that undoubtably it is easier for suppliers to list all their products with VAT since VAT would be applicable to the vast majority of their products. But when items should be VAT exempt when its for personal professional use, it would be useful if suppliers could make this as clear as possible either on the homepage; product description or at checkout. Since some do and some don't, then the next best thing was to try and find out exactly how the VAT or exemptions should be applied when buying PPE for personal use. Nigel's explanation, referencing the relevant HMRC literature, clarifies the situation enabling me to buy with added confidence. Hopefully this clarification will be as useful to others as it has been for me.
  10. Many thanks Nigel. My confusion has now been suitably allayed with your very informative post.
  11. Does anyone know how VAT works on items of PPE? Been browsing a few suppliers websites advertised on this forum, looking at prices for a new pair of boots, and have been struck by the seemingly muddled approach as to wether or not VAT is applicable or not. At least 1 site states that their boots are VAT exempt, another site indicate that VAT will be added at checkout, whilst a third site gives you the option to state wether the boots are for business use (VAT added) or personal use (VAT exempt)! In a similar vein, I recall when I bought my Stein climbing helmet a while back, that I was asked if it was for work or recreational use. When I asked what the difference was, I was informed that no VAT was charged for work use but was charged for recreational! So how come VAT has become such a confusing issue on PPE
  12. A guide that I have used quite successfully for planting a hedgerow using whips is, 4 plants per metre for a single row and 6 plants per metre for a double row.

  17. For Stihl servicing, you could try Fletcher Stewart Ltd., Hazel Grove, Stockport. They have an excellent service mechanic/engineer in house. Fletcher Stewart Can get a bit pricey though if its a big job, genuine stihl parts used, and if he's in-undated with work turn around time can be weeks rather than days.
  18. Bump! Diary looking a bit empty folks. Any offers....? Don't be shy come on give me a try!

Seriously mate, a decent helmet is a potential life saver. How much is your life worth, trust me what ever value you might think it is, its actually priceless. I accept you're on a budget, but this is one area that is not worth cutting corners. Buy yourself a half decent NEW helmet, the cost is irrelavant compared to the value of what it is protecting. YOU!
  20. Think it might be a slug mate.
  21. Having seen a number of job ads popping up on this site now and again looking for workers with CSCS and PTS cards/accreditation, I was wondering is it worth spending some of my hard earned (speculate to accumalate) on putting myself through the relevant training and getting hold of said documents. Has anyone else been in a similar position and done the same and found it made it easier to find work or did it prove to be a waste of time and money for which you never gained an positive benefits? Does anyone even know if its possible to do the PTS training as a freelancer without being sponsored by a rail approved contractor? Thanks in anticipation, Rick
  22. Baked or fried, and would you like chips with that sir?
  23. Sounds interesting... I could be up for a jolly in the woods..... Re:- "booze & snooze" static caravan & lodge available.... any costs involved? Don't mean to sound like a skinflint, just wondering how much pocket money I'd need to bring. If there's a lake, are we allowed to fish?
  24. Ahhhh, thanks Arbgirl, mystery solved. Erm, already set him free, hope he's got a good sense of smell nearest patch of willow herb maybe 10-20m away.
