    I’m not sure about the confusion and hostility over this request - the op has stated it was a FC stipulated clearfell (I suspect Phytopthera due to the presence of Larch - oak is also a host species). Lapsed pollard stumps with the harvestable timber removed could easily still be 6ft plus tall, particularly when growing on a slope. These stumps would still potentially be hosting phytopthera and it makes sense for the FC to insist on their removal and destruction to cleanse the site for replanting (even though the whole enterprise is a case of closing the door after the horse has bolted, but that’s not the op’s fault)…

    From the description the finished height combined with the width is the killer - I can see how time would get eaten up fannying around trying to not get stabbed on a job like that. However, 3 days has to be taking the piss. Definitely a flail job, if there is access then blokes shouldn’t be cutting that crap (you’d end up with a better hedge if flailed by someone half-decent too).

    Just seen the pics - if the birch was also pruned by the same tree surgeon they know what they are doing, they’ve done a decent job there. Your euc definitely didn’t die because of pruning, and it was 100% the wrong place to plant that tree so the outcome was probably for the best anyway. My money is still on frost, but that could also have been killed by a disgruntled neighbour (though eucalyptus can be quite hard to kill off with glyphosate, so I’m leaning towards frost).

    No, you aren’t. Gunnii can be susceptible to frost damage in my experience - I’ve seen mature specimens die after particularly cold spells.

    As soon as you start welding chassis and bulkheads to keep them on the road you are on a downward spiral - it’s time to chuck proper money at the job or get rid IMO. I see that at £6k, with or without vat. That’s an offer if you are interested, but I doubt you’ll see this as I think you have blocked me because I was dismissive towards Lycra-loving-road-hogging-self-important-peddle-pushers once upon a time and you get all offended. (And you obviously think your old Landy is worth a gazillion dollars as does every other Defender-owning masochist on the planet, as they are always advertised at exorbitant prices but bizarrely rarely seem to sell).

    I always wore protector pros and always found them very comfortable. However the soles kept delaminating (I had 4 pairs fail in the same way, none of which we’re old) so gave up on them in the end and wear Fellhunters now.

    From the pictures posted I’d suggest your issue is one of aesthetics, not tree health. Some people will like the wildness and privacy that they are subsequently afforded, others want a more manicured view. Good luck finding an acceptable middle ground - it might be easier to move to a property you don’t have to share with others though (someone in your block is going to end up unhappy in your current situation however this plays out).

    You may have those tyres on the rims backwards (it’s hard to tell from the pics) - they have a thick sidewall protector on one side to ‘tolerate’ curbs etc.

    We ran one of those Mazda Rangers for years, was a brilliant truck. Rust got the better of it in the end sadly, we couldn’t kill it mechanically!
