    Were you towing anything? If your load was being sold then a trailer would take you over the 3.5 tonnes ‘hire and reward’ threshold whereby you would have needed a tachograph etc.

    6 year old arb truck. Never been washed. Probably never been serviced either. A million pounds please… (Try and at least make some sort of effort to sell it!)

    Ordering a single new-order van from a dealer leaves you wide open to being bummed - list prices are always mental and they charge extra for everything on a factory order. You’re better off finding a dealer with pre-registered stock as you’ll have a better chance of negotiating a deal. Fleet orders trigger big manufacturer discounts and some leasing companies will bulk-buy - have a look online for the type of van you are after and be prepared to do a deal at the other end of the country. Vehicles sitting registered on forecourts are about to be a year older (even though they are essentially brand new) - this makes them cheaper to buy too.

    I think the foreign object is a red herring - we’ve accidentally chipped all sorts of nasty stuff over the years (plenty of steel rebar etc) and it doesn’t tend to destroy bearings (not immediately anyway). The bearing being worn and failing will have caused the flywheel gap to alter which will have caused the metallic sound you heard as the blades struck the anvil in use - this contact will have mullered your blades. That’s what I reckon anyway!

    The edges chip off when the front bearing fails and the disks ‘tickle’ the anvil… @Mike Hill - that front bearing mounting is the same design as the 1928 machines. I’ve been running those for ever, and still have a 2005 machine with well over 3000 hours on it now (which goes out working most weeks). I’ve never had any issues with structural part of these chippers, the design works well.

    I’ve got a pressure washer with a 13hp Honda engine on it that drives one of those patio whirligig type cleaners (I took it as part-payment towards a bad debt, I don’t wash patios). It’s a beast of a thing when using the jetwash lance - you need to wear your heaviest shoes to stay upright when you pull the trigger… It has to be run from a bowser as a garden tap won’t keep up with it.

    I suspect the bearing has failed - if you slacken the belts and put a bar under the rotor shaft you will probably see movement.

    We subbied to Ground Control on the WPD contract for a couple of years - I had 10 fully authorised climbing arborists working with chainsaws from ropes and harnesses around live power lines day-in, day-out. Mountains of paperwork, regular site audits, routine safety briefings (days with no pay for me as the business owner but the same wages to pay etc, all part of the job!). It came to a bit of a head when some office-based safety muppet decided we needed the NPTC blower qualification (we all already held just about every NPTC ticket available, and had to routinely refresh these!)… I lost my rag tbh, told them we’d just leave the blowers in the yard and they’d have to explain to landowners why the jobs weren’t left very tidy. We don’t work for ****************wits any more….

    Don’t be shy with it - choke as many logs as you can together and drag them all in one pull! Don’t use the tractor handbrake and make sure your arms are free to drop whilst winching - some tractors lock them each time you turn the engine off etc and you need to let the winch pull itself into the ground as it loads up.

    Are you fitting a new chain with the new bars? Sounds more like a possible chain issue to me.

    Yes - the Tajfun are brilliant winches. We run ours on a little 90hp SAME and it’s a mega setup. When pulling hard the torque through the pto can make it lift a wheel… Get the powered outfeed and radio control would be my advise.
