  1. Has anyone tried a 260 drum on a 261 ? I have a 260 spur sprocket which seems to fit perfectly but am wary of trying it as the 260/261 rim sprockets have different numbers. Am I missing something obvious ? (wouldn't be the first time !)
  2. Wear - what wear , looks nicely broken in to me !
  3. +1 on the heads up. Snapped one up as soon as I saw your post.
  4. Actually I think they are Chinese from what I can remember.
  5. I really hadn't realized what philanthropists Aspen were.
  6. I would like to make it clear that I am in no way accusing the retailers in the UK of profiteering but until someone from Aspen can show me the underlying manufacturing costs (not likely to happen anytime soon) I will remain very skeptical about the price.
  7. Of course it is not just us that are complaining about the cost of Aspen. Reading some articles in the Norwegian paper Dagbladet they are also complaining about the high cost and different pricing structures in Norway.
  8. The fuel tax on Aspen is the same as the fuel tax on ordinary petrol so this argument doesn't stand up.
  9. So what you are basically saying is that the basic raw ingredients of Aspen cost is zero. ( normally companies have to pay to have waste product removed). I find it very hard to believe that the refining costs are four times the cost of normal petrol production in the present global recession and that someone is not making a killing on the production of Aspen. This is a product made for a niche market with a niche market price. Excellent marketing has led to a demand in this country for a product that is totally overpriced compared I believe to it's manufacture costs. I use Aspen grudgingly on seldom used saws and hedge trimmers etc but grudge every penny over the £1.50 a litre I think should be charged for it. We are being scammed in the UK on alkylate fuel and no rhetoric on the part of suppliers in the UK will convince me of otherwise
  10. The cat section looks as if it should lift right out of the front cover ( in the IPL the exhaust is shown in three sections) but I found it impossible (without going mad) to separate the cat section from the front, (it may be a very tight push fit) so I just put the exhaust in a workmate and used a drill to remove the cat material itself .
  11. Just as a matter of interest the H jet on my carb needed the Pac Man pattern tool not the Double D. (luckily I bought the set).
  12. Thanks but there doesn't appear to be any resin or other covering on the pin (I can get a probe down the side).
  13. Having taken the plunge and removed the cat from my PS420 exhaust I went to enrich the top end only to find I have what appears to be a fixed H screw carb. Is it safe to run without damaging engine ?
  14. 12" is a seriously short bar for a 044
  15. +1 on the Rancher (if it's a gray top).Had one for years and never missed a beat. Not the fastest but a great firewood saw with simple maintenance, rugged and reliable.
  16. Having emailed Aspen in Sweden several years ago about the storage and longevity of the two stroke mix I was assured that if stored in metal containers its life was almost indefinite. Storing in the plastic cans as supplied allowed some transpiration through the plastic and was advised of five years as safe.
  17. I am confident that this set up has been exhaustively tested and is fully HSE compliant.
  18. Can highly recommend the Dolmar 420. Stick with the narrow kerf chain and it will happily keep up with most 50cc saws regardless of make. Very snappy response on the trigger and built to last.
  19. + 1 Couldn't be more helpful over the phone.
  20. Thanks, I thought that's what it might be.
  21. My Dolmar PS420 came with a NGK CMR7A-5 plug. I can only find listings for a CMR7A in the UK , is it the same plug? Does anyone know what the -5 stands for?
