  1. Definatly stick to how you are doing it. There are no shortcuts and no amount of pulleys will actually make you a better climber. Master each bit as you go along.
  2. Yeah that is enabled. Still not working though
  3. I use firefox so it doesn't have that setting ????
  4. My computer has decided not to remember any password any more!! I used to click the Arbtalk link in the bookmarks toolbar and it would atumatically log me in, now it won't. But it also no longer works for hotmail, treebuzz, ebay etc etc. Its annoying for hotmail as it won't even remember me when I type in the first letter of my e mail address. Any computer geeks (I mean geniuses) here??
  5. Cerne Are you pulling with both arms? Try having both hands under the friction hitch, pull with both, slide hitch up with upper hand. Try swapping which hand is used for moving the hitch or else your gonna get one arm like hellboy!
  6. Steve, what made you think you were at the top of your game? ha ha.. Angus. Great vid. my favorite must be the folding euc though. One question. On that Tahune job, am I right in thinking that Graeme has a belay line clipped through each of the ratchet straps going up the tree? If so then it makes for a great rescue system if required.
  7. I had a 90 yr old lady ask me for chestnut logs once, I said yes but are you sure you want chestnut? She said- chestnut burns fine as long as you take the bark off. Not tried it myself but wouldn't be surprised if she's right.
  8. They run them at staverton airport near gloucester just off M5 south of M5

Proclimber might still get them for you. I don't think they are "rated" though! Sleeping in a tree is not a work activity (usually) so no need for CE, loler, etc etc.. Back it up by wearing a harness in bed is what most do, just a lightweight rock harness will do. Get the one with the sleeve for a thermarest or buy the duvet type thing that clips underneath. I've used mine in feb in snowdownia, no worries!
  10. Having the intelligence to take note of the weather is the first bit of equipment you need in the mountains. All the high tec gear etc is only secondary to that. They should have postponed it.
  11. No. It depends on how much of the above you can do in a day.
  12. Really? Ok, I stand corrected as usual! I was gonna e-mail you to see if you had input in this new design, but I'm guessing not?
  13. Depends what you offer for £350.00?
  14. All of the above makes it sound as though I do day rate stuff but I don't really. I base my quotes on a day rate that I want to achieve for the given task but then the work is as per quote, with only some very special exceptions.
  15. Day rate to a private person is just an invitation for them to abuse your production capacity or demonstrate their ignorance of our craft.IMHO Agreed, thats why we bring minimal kit, that way can't dismantle trees etc. For a cheap day rate you could even not bring a saw, hand saw only. For large commercial clients we charge day rate, but that is for climbing/chipping only.No clean up,no chip hauling etc. In this case you can charge a huge rate cos you could climb all day and potentially produce 3-4 truck loads of chippings. This bring up the conundrum of actually charging more for "leave on site" jobs. I do this often, if its £500/day for tree work removing debris then it must be £800+ day for tree work not removing debris because in the time saved you could do and extra 300 quids worth of tree work.
  16. Just don't do it! I offer a cheap day rate but we'll only bring two small saws and no petrol or diesel, thats extra, that way we get nothing done and the job takes longer/costs more so they should have got us to quote/work on a fixed price basis. Why on earth would you hire out everything? Also for a "day rate" you would be expected to be on site for a day 8-9 hrs and tip off etc in your own time unless you carefully specify otherwise. We do some day rate stuff but for special clients only who understand that the day starts and finishes in my yard not theres.
  17. Yes, we are agreed that this is bad practice so no need to go discuss further. Used carefully they are ok. The original kongs were made for caving (hence the glow in dark handles) and were designed for use on two seperate fixed lines so no need for back up, each one backs up the other. The new ones are designed for arb work. Why would kong part ex somethings sold for caving for something sold for arb work? It was our choice to use them for arb work and kong have never accepted any liability for injury whilst used in this way unless used on two seperate fixed lines. We have therefore had to come up with methods of back up right from the start. I have used two pairs of kongs at once to this effect and it works well. A purpose made set of kongs would be a great addition to my kit and I would hope that they would be approved for use in TCC's.
  18. Cheek? Yes, I guess so, but I will probably buy some too! I use kongs all the time, sometimes back them up for akward or exposed ascents but backing them up is a pain. If the new ones really are safe to use without back up then I would want a pair and insist that employees switch to them also.
  19. Bruce, you know I'd love to demmo/review those new ascenders for you!
  20. Why did he stop working after it? He still had plenty left to do!
  21. Did you work the following day too? If not then charge for that on top as recovery time!
  22. What year model is it? Should say on the chain break handle. 2005 was a bad year!
