  1. Il be after new boots at the apf. My klima Air Tirrol Fighters have lasted 3 years FT (with 3 new soles). Im now borrowing a pair of class 2 Treemme boots untill the APF. They are v. comfy and light but not as supportive as the Klimas and a bit to warm. Im quite keen to look at the new stein explorer boots. Also the treemmee hikers.
  2. Dont swap your strop for a wirecore strop. Get one as well. You only need the wirecore strop when you are taking down a pole and cutting above your strop in case you slip. When in the canoy you dont need a wire strop and it is better to have a soft stop that you can switch between your side d's and front attachment. I climb with a Vt hitchclimber set up on my main and a 5m lanyard with a Cinch adjuster. I swap the cinch lanyard for a wirecore flipline with a vt adjuster for working on spikes.
  3. Its great I really like it. Will the sculptured butt be left to rot in situ? Or will it be moved. I relly like the idea of the face decaying and cracking.
  4. The human procesor is great:thumbup:
  5. Is this similar to the 100% dynema stuff marlow had at the arb show ? How does it flake and whats the breaking strain of it ?
  6. Last week I was told about a big holy on a job we were going to be working on. I got to see it yesterday. Its really big. We measured it at 18m tall and a diameter of 1.34m. Does anybody know of any bigger hollys ? Any one want to take a guess at its age ?
  7. Does it prevent I.hispidus on Ash, P. squamosus on H.chestnut, Laeteporus on Oak? Is there experemental evedance to show this ?
  8. Millions of years it has taken to get this diversity of species. We rush into alot of things and cause alot of ecological dammage, many of the things man has done in the name of progress are very regretable.
  9. I think Im probably not taking enough care over how im trimming the peices of the cores for the crossover. I might try pulling the core a bit on one of the ropes I have spliced and see if that gets rid of the lump in the crossover.
  10. It would be interesting to see what fungi did colonise the wood after you cut it with a spore mix in your chain oil. Have any trials been carried out and published ? It may be that endophytic fungi outcompete the fungi spores that are applied. I see a bit of a problem in spreading spores of fungi artificially on a big scale. The spores you are spreading may have an unfair advantage over spores of fungi indigenous to the site. Could this lead to loss of colonisation sites for saprophytic fungi ?
  11. Do you just remove 50% of each at about the half way point or do you taper it from the half way point to the end ? Cheers.
  12. I cant seem to get my crossover perfect, there is always a slight change in diameter either a bulge or a narrowing that makes the hitch jump a little. Any tips on tapering the core and cover before they get sucked back in would be appreciated. Im splicing xtc Fire. I also want to splice some short things using just the cover. Any tips ? Can I reduce the length between two splices by making a longer crossover ?
  13. My boots are in need of replacing Has anyone seen any good deals on tirol fighter chainsaw boots ? The last pair cost £136 three years ago but the prices have gone right up now.
  14. Are they dying or is it insect dammage ? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/3029-whos-been-munching-these-sycamore-leaves.html
  15. I drive past some dead larch every day on the A350 crockerton and there are also some in the road near Center parks longleat. With everyone visiting center parks and longleat returning to where they came from Its possible that phytothera on Larch will be all over the place. At the moment no bio security measures have been put in place by the FC on the estate.
  16. Maybee the bolts have come out on the side opposite the moter.
  17. The decay wont extend very far up the tree. You should get some good timber from it if you decide to fell it.
  18. Your Id is bang on Lee. Lots of trees with I.dryadeus can stand for years. Whats the crown like and how expossed is it to the wind ?
  19. Cheers Dave. The fracture was untouched, it just doesnt show up in the darker photo. Nearly all of the mature Beech on the site have Ganoderma on them. Its on private land with low use so no further investigation has been done.
  20. Yes it is Tommer its very close to where the woodland show was. A lot of the peices in the log pile where destined to go throuh a tub grinder about 4 years ago but they ran out of time. It would have all been chip without the mosaic of micro habitats it now offers.
  21. Thats great, do they burn the meerkat at some point? The tree wall photo is one of the weirdist Ive seen. Really cool.
  22. I think I have gone way over the number of photos that is tolerable for one post but here goes......
  23. I took a little detour on my way home to take a few photos. I took masses and I hope you find them interesting. First two are a taster while I upload the rest.
